"Sandskin exists only in the dark corners of reality, maybe we're the dark shadow under your bed, that single cold spot on your floor, that melancoly note that turns a song into a dirge."
Sandskin is a death metal project combining elements of thrash old school brutal death, and grind elements. There have been several incarnations of the band since it's original inception back in 199x. The only remaining founding member is guitarist Brian (Voodoo Man).
The most recent reincarnation of the band took place during the cold winter months of late 2007 as Brian recruited bassist Shawn and vocalist Justin (Space Munky) from NEDM. Writing began but a drummer was needed to finish the line up. Shawn was friends with drummer Joey (Necrotic-Fleshrot), a formerly well-known musician in the local metal scene, who had just arrived back in town.
Shawn asked Joey to try out. Joey reluctantly agreed as his chops were rusty and he had just re-joined his old band, "Sepulcro," as frontman. Joey's decision to try out turned out to be a good one as he instantly bonded with the band and his style fit the sound perfectly.
After just a few short months the band had a handful of songs written and were asked to fill in a blank spot at a benefit show. Though the band was still in its early stages, they agreed. The show was a success and the band proved that it would be a recognizable force.
A few more shows and extensive writing would follow and a demo would be recorded. Soon after, the band struck a deal with artist Mike Wasion of Charnelhouse Graffix for poster and t-shirt art. We hope to have everything released by Summer '09.
Fall '08 was a bit of a drawback for the band. Show relations with NEDM were strained and finally the ties were cut. As such the flow of shows came to a near halt and the band took the time off to continue writing new material. Around the same time however, relations also became strained with bassist Shawn and the tough decision to let him go was made. The band then turned to guitarist and good friend Adrian (Cesos) from Sepulcro for help. Adrian was more than willing to help and he quickly joined up and found himself easily integrated into the band.
It is with this current line up that the band forges on and hopes to re-enter the studio sometime this year to complete a full length album.
