Sandy Kelly is undoubtedly one of the finest entertainers Ireland has ever produced. Her career stretches right back to her childhood and to her family's "Fit-Up" road show. Sandy first appeared on a stage at the early age of 3! She was a magician's assistant and it seems, if you look back over her career to date, that someone sprinkled a little of that magic over her. Over the last 3 decades she has achieved ambitions most entertainers only dream about.
She has represented Ireland with The Duskeys in Eurovision 1982, she was a European ‘Gold Star Award’ winner in 1985, she had her own RTE TV series from 1990 – 1992, she has recorded and toured with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, George Hamilton IV, Glen Campbell and many more world-wide stars. She has two gold records with Johnny Cash for ‘Woodcarver’ and ‘Ring of Fire’. The list goes on and on.
One of Sandy’s biggest successes in her glittering career has been her appearance in the Lead Role of the ‘touring’ production ‘Patsy Cline: A Musical Tribute’. The show has been a phenomenal success, with sell out crowds and standing ovations throughout Ireland and the UK, and due in no small part to Sandy’s critically acclaimed portrayal of ‘Patsy’. It also stars George Hamilton IV, from Nashville, and Sandy’s sister Barbara Ellis, has been a huge success with sell out crowds and standing ovations throughout the country. Sandy’s links with Patsy Cline began back in 1989 when she recorded ‘Crazy’. The record was an instant hit and led to the musical and a recording of the ‘Songs of Patsy Cline’, including timeless hits like ‘Sweet Dreams’, ‘I Fall To Pieces’ and ‘She’s Got You’.
Over the last 20 years, Sandy has won just about every award there is to win in Show business. The most recent of these was being voted top “British and Irish female vocalist” at the prestigious “Irish World Millennium Awards” in London. Other recipients at the awards included former Irish Taoiseach Albert Reynolds, Paddy Casey and Sir Bob Geldof.
The Best of Sandy Kelly shows off some of Sandy’s best work from her enduring and magical musical journey. And there’s more to come….
