Sanell’s rise to the soca platform started out from a demo being done by the keyboardist of the “Dollar Wine” band Taxi for a popular talent show back in 1991 for which she was
A contestant. She was asked to sing to make sure that the key and the music was done to her liking by then musical director Robin Imamshah.
They were all blown away by the soft , smoothe and sophisticated voice that Sanell had
Posessed. Immediately she was asked to be a part of the band. She accepted and the rest as we say is musical history.
Sanell went on to sing and tour with Taxi for the next two years. Within that time she met her husband Terry who was also a member of the band, and now her Producer.
In the following years she graced the stage with bands like Traffik, Sound Revolution, Atlantik and eventually Blue Ventures to which she is most popularly known.
In Ocotber of1997 Sanell was asked to cut a couple of gigs for the Miami Carnival weekend with Blue Ventures. At the time she was not affiliated with any band and had no problem doing this job for the weekend. However, after that weekend she was made an official member of the band, where she performed alongside Ronnie Mc Intosh.
Two years later in 1999 , Sanell created history by winning the Road March title with her ever popular song “De River”. This was a great achievement since she became the first woman in twenty one years after Calypso Rose to hold that title.
Carnival 2000 Sanell once again proved to be no fluke when she won the International Soca Queen Competition, with a song that was dubbed the Ladies anthem “Nothing for You”. Which still creates tension for her male audience whenever she performs.
Sanell’s popularity over the years has made her a house hold name not only with the men and women but she has managed to win the hearts of the little people who she said matters most the children.
After spending seven years with Blue Ventures in 2004 Sanell decided that it was time for her to move on. Having a passion for designing , she took on a new portfolio as a mas designer and section leader with the Band of The Year winners Trini Revellers. spreading her wings she has acquired a new following which she has no problem accepting. However, Singing is her first love and she intends to represent to the fullest.
For Carnival 2006 Sanell has already recorded and released song like Mercy Please , Forever and Sucker a song which is proving to be another favourite for the ladies.
Over the years Sanell’s repotoire of songs include De River, Nothing , Chances, Little Bit, Tradesman and Cock Back, just to name a few.
