San 216...Thats right, you read the name correctly! Either youre pretty brave of pretty crazy to have your citys original area code attached to your name. Hes a little of both. Hailing from the Eastside of Cleveland, Ohio this local native has been around the underground hip-hop scene for 10 years. Starting out with the crew Woody Nation in the late 90s, he later left the group to pursue a solo career. Somewhat a loner, it wasnt until 1999 that San 216 became involved with another talented hip-hop group, ProtoKulture. The four strong minded, collective thinkers from ProtoKulture shared emceeing and production talents . ProtoKulture shaped Sans vision of forward thinking hip-hop. Within the next two years, ProtoKulture went on to produce 2 group projects, as well as Sans first solo c.d. Its my call. Released in 2003. Headlining shows with ProtoKulture at such venues : The Rhythm Room and Club X O. San re acquainted himself with Poohmanchew, local promoter, m.c., and President of Nappy Head Entertainment, whom hed worked with previously on the first ProtoKulture c.d. and Nappy Head mixtape c.d., Kings released in 2002. Having established a good rapport on and off the mic, Pooh extended an open invitation for San 216 to join the Nappy Head family and create the super group, Go-Live Grizzles! Their first mixtape was released in 2004. With influences ranging from KRS-ONE to Scarface, Common to N.W.A., San 216s style flows through different topics from love to the government and back to the hood again. With his new c.d. The VentILLation already in circulation in Ohio and Michigan, and the Go-Live Grizzles c.d.s, San 216 is here to prove Cleveland has real authentic hip-hop.
