San Lo' was created by Isabel De Lorenzo e Lara Rocchetti, two dancers and teachers of the art of middle eastern dance. They wanted a space that was specifically conceived to create and promote multicultural dance and art events. San Lo' is a 500 square meter air condicioned loft in the heart of medieval Rome in the San Lorenzo area. It consists of three dance studios, a dance library, a video archive and media room, high speed internet access, meeting spaces and exhibition area for photography and art. Lessons, workshops and extensive courses are given in middle eastern dance, tribal bellydance, indian dances like baratha natyam and katak, sri lanka dance, flamenco, hula, afrobrasilian dance and capoeira, tango argentino, salsa y merengue, hatha yoga and kundalini yoga, pilates, aikido, ballet, modern and contemporary dance, dance theatre, contact improvisation, theatre, ethnic music etc. Thousands of students, dancers,workshop participants and the generally public have enjoyed this contemporary facility. Work is already under way for the addition of an oriental style hammam – turkish bath. In its almost five years existence San Lo' has become an exciting point of reference for dance, art and photography in Rome.
