SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR MEMBER ACHIEVEMENTS:
Congratulations to our own "PHIL GATES BLUES BAND" for winning the 2008 Southern California Blues Society "Battle of the Blues Bands".
During the IBC in Memphis, Phil's band competed against other bands in Beale Street clubs on the final Saturday night of the IBC and they won the title for "Kings Of Beale Street".
THE LAURIE MORVAN BAND, our 2008 IBC BATTLE OF THE BANDS
WINNER, also WON our 2008 "BEST SELF PRODUCED CD" COMPETITION
for her new CD "CURES WHAT AILS YA".
Laurie's band was a "TOP 10 FINALIST" at the "2008 IBC" and "Cures What Ails Ya"
not only finished as a "TOP 5 FINALIST" in the "WORLD'S CD COMPETITION" - Laurie also sold the 2ND LARGEST NUMBER OF CDS DURING THE IBC.

"BLUES SPOTLIGHT" - MAY HOST BAND
"The Alan Wright Band"
Winner of our 2009 IBC "Battle of the Blues Bands" last October, Alan and his band represented our Blues Society against the World's Best Unsigned Blues Artists at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee.
With a love for the blues and a passion for entertaining people, Alan Wright, leader of the Alan Wright Blues Band, has been doing just that since learning to play a guitar at age 9. Even after more than 30 years of performing in venues across the country, the Canyon Country resident continues to create original music, play live shows and organize local jam sessions - all for pure love of the blues.
Alan's strong, deep, throaty voice is natural for singing the Roots based music he loves and writes. His Guitar and Harmonica playing is just as pure and powerful, tapping down into the very roots of the music he loves.
Wright plays guitar, harmonica and sings vocals, with Jay Spell on the keyboard, Jeff Ackerman on the saxophone, Michael Moxley on bass guitar and Wendell Stroup on Drums.
Just because we are one of the Youngest Blues Societies in the World, that doesn't mean we're the Weakest nor does it mean we're the Poorest...what it means is that we have the Most to Look Forward To!
Our Membership is filled with some of the most talented, caring and thoughtful people in the world - if you need a hand they will lend it, if they have a contact they'll share it and together we will make it happen! That's what makes us strong, that's what makes us rich and that's what makes us the Best Blues Society in the world!
We are moving forward with our goals at a brisk pace. Now is the time to step up and become a Society Member or Volunteer to help at one of our many Endeavors. Together, we can only move forward to Success. In the last year, the number of our Society's members have almost doubled...we're gaining speed!
Our mission is to preserve and promote the Blues music art form. We try to accomplish this with many ongoing Society Events. Our goal is "Keeping The Blues Alive".

WINNING BAND:
Alan Wright has a ton of heart, and that is where his music comes from.
It really cooks with great soulful Rockers as well as traditional-style Blues.
Alan's strong, deep, throaty voice is natural for singing the Roots based music he loves and writes. His Guitar and Harmonica playing is just as pure and powerful, tapping down into the very roots of the music he loves.
WINNING SOLO ARTIST:
Bryan Chan was raised with 60's and 70's Rock ..... later introduced to Country Music ... he now embraces the Blues.
Thru his very unusual method of playing Slide Guitar, Bryan's thoughts and feelings of daily life struggles are soulfully expressed thru his music.
John's new "SELF TITLED" CD has been receiving good airplay on 154 FM Radio stations around the World and hit the "ROOTS BLUES TOP 50" CHARTS after only 8 days and is still going strong and rising in the ratings. Five of John's songs are currently in the "BROADJAM MUSIC TOP 10" CHARTS and one was recently licensed by CBS to appear in the Top 10 TV series "NCIS".
SCV BLUES SOCIETY IS RAISING MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH!!
We're very proud to announce that we are a Bronze Sponsor again this year for the Santa Clarita Valley Relay For Liife, which is the 10th largest Relay in the United States.
We will have a Society Booth at the SCV Relay For Life on Saturday, May 30th at Central Park on Bouquet Canyon Road in Santa Clarita, CA. We're very pleased that several of our Society Bands have been chosen to play at the 12 hour "Music For The Cause" Festival during the Relay.
You can help us with our efforts to raise much needed money for Cancer Research!! We are having Fundraisers and Raffle to gather funds thru our Society's Relay For Life Team.You can also make a Tax Deductible Donation to the American Cancer Society at one of our Society Events, by Check or Online thru our Team thru August 31st, 2009. Winners of our Fender Telecaster Guitar Raffle were drawn following the Music For The Cause Festival on May 30th with many prizes including the Telecaster Guitar and many other prizes donated by Lynn Parker and the Hornblower Friday Night Blues Dinner Cruise Tickets donated by Hornblower Yachts and arranged by Phil Gates.

Thanks to everyone who purchased Raffle Tickets, we raised a lot of money for the American Cancer Society. This year's SCV Relay For Life has raised over $500,000.00 which keeps it up there in the Top 10 Relays in the United States.
Our Blues Society supports the local Santa Clarita Valley and Los Angeles Blues scene thru this website, Member Band links & gig notices, our "Blues Friends" email list, Society member email list, Monthly "Blues News" newsletter, Online Calendar, Monthly Blues Jams and other Events, Fundraisers and Concerts.
Also, we are in the midst of implementing our new "Blues In The Schools" Program and are looking for volunteers to help us teach our youngsters about the History of Blues Music.
