The Santa Cruz Film Festival calls independent-minded filmmakers and artists who produce culturally relevant and ideologically challenging work to submit their films for the 2009 festival, May 7-16, 2009.
Films and videos of all lengths and formats completed after January 1, 2008 are invited to submit for consideration: Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, Student and youth-produced works. Submit your film online at Withoutabox.com. Films must be submitted by February 1, 2009 to be eligible for the May 2009 film festival. Jury prizes are awarded in the categories of Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature and Emerging Filmmaker categories.
Jane Sullivan, Founder and Director describes the eighth season, "We are pulling out all the stops to kick the festival into the 8th dimension. New ideologies are in. We're looking to find the zeit in film making and new media messaging and honoring all that it holds for us in the 21st Century. The Santa Cruz Film Festival prides itself in its adventurous programming and outsider culture."
In the past 8 years The Santa Cruz Film Festival has exhibited over 850 independent films that have been viewed by the Santa Cruz and Greater Bay Area communities and the ever growing number of international visitors.
Approximately 20% of all of the films programmed per fest are from outside the US and 10% are locally produced films. Over 45,000 film-goers have attended the festival; that in turn has produced substantial revenue for the merchants and hospitality industry of SC County.
We offer artists a unique venues to present their individual brand of independent storytelling to an ever growing and enthusiastic audience. Our continued success lies in the volunteers, Board of Directors and the Community of Santa Cruz who participate in The Santa Cruz Film Festival. To get involved please check our Contribute and Volunteer Pages at http://www.santacruzfilmfestival.com. The Santa Cruz Film Festival is a 501 C3 and by donating to the SCFF you support our efforts and our continuing mission to support The Arts.
