Movies
*Watership Down, 1978, Martin Rosen directed Animated Classic, based on the best-selling novel by Richard Adams. This movie left a huge, unforgettable impression on my brain as a child. Art Garfunkel lends his voice to the soundtrack. By far my favorite animated film ever! This film answers the question, "What is the meaning of life?"* Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, 2006, Larry Charles directs Sacha Baron Cohen in one of the funniest movies EVER!!! High Five! I Like! Is Nice! * Shortbus, 2006, John Cameron Mitchell does it again with this sexual, voyeuristic masterpiece. * Jesus Camp, 2006, Directorial Duo, Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, creates a very unbiased documentary that if you aren't a fucking wacko will scare the shit out of you! (sidenote: I've been to many camps like this in my childhood.) * Pink Narcissus, 1971, James Bidgood's fantasy "erotic poem" full of amazing visuals. A constant source of inspiration for designers and creative types alike. *The Women, 1939, George Cukor directs this legendary fashion extravaganza! Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford, and Rosalind Russell star in this all-women ensemble with costumes by the great Adrian. A bona fide Classic! * The Color Purple, 1985, Steven Spielberg directs Oprah, Whoopie, and a cast of other legendary actors in Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. The first film I ever cried uncontrollably at. * In A Glass Cage or Tras el Cristal, 1987, Agusti Villaronga's deep, dark, disturbing, and grim as they come film. Beyond the category of horror. Wrong on so many levels, you'll probably never be able to find it. * Kung Fu Hustle, 2004, Stephen Chow kills it with this wildly genius and imaginative Action film. Visually stimulating and explosive! * The Proposition, 2005, John Hillcoat directs Nick Cave's Austalian Western about a family of notorious outlaws. * Mysterious Skin, 2004, Gregg Araki directs actor, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in this moving film based on the book by Scott Heim. * Don't Look Now, 1973, Nicolas Roeg directs Keifer's dad, Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie in this cinematic Psychic . * Truth or Dare, 1991, Alek Keshishian documentary that follows Madonna on her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour. * Rush, 1991, Director Lili Fini Zanuck's drug induced Drama. House of Lebeija Forever! Willi Ninja R.I.P. * Notebooks on Cities and Clothes, 1989, Wim Wenders documentary about
the creative process of fashion genius Yohji Yamamoto.
* Unzipped, 1995, Douglas Keeve's behind the scrim documentary about
fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi. Much more relevant than Robert
Altman's "Ready to Wear" released around the same time.
* Kismet, 1955, Vincente Minnelli directed big budget musical with
sensational visuals, this movie blew me away as a kid and I can still
close my eyes and see the magical procession sequence.
* Blade Runner, 1982, Ridley Scott's futuristic thriller. Costume
designer extraordinaire Michael Kaplan's first movie, Mr. Kaplan has
gone on to create the wardrobe for many memorable films including:
Flashdance, Seven, Fight Club and most recently Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
* Gilda, 1946, Rita Hayworth is so sexy in this movie directed by
Charles Vidor, I can't believe it. The costumes are also very
inspirational or maybe it's just her wearing them!
* How To Marry A Millionaire, 1953, Betty Grable, Marilyn Monroe, and
Lauren Bacall onscreen at the same time is outrageous! They are so
funny and hot in this kitchy movie that I could have on repeat all day
long in the background while I'm working! Directed by Jean Negulesco.
* Portiere di Notte, or The Night Porter, 1974, Charlotte Rampling is
a genius actress who is provocative and beautiful in this superiorly
disturbing film by Lilianna Cavani. This film lends yet more proof
that Italians do it better! Every fashion designer must see this
movie!
* Blazing Saddles, 1974, Mel Brooks is my favorite director and this
movie is insanely funny and timeless. I know the lines of this movie
by heart and I quote it on a daily basis!
* The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, 2000, A humorous look through the
compassionate eyes of a former televangelist. This documentary by
Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato is ultimately honest and endearing.
* Mahogany, 1975, Berry Gordy directs his wife at the time Diana Ross.
Majorly inspirational for anyone dreaming of becoming a superstar
fashion designer! Do you know where you're going to? Do you like the
things that life is showing you? Do you know?
* Parapluies de Cherbourg or The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, 1964,
Directed by Jacques Demy is maybe, quite possibly the most whimsically
beautiful motion picture EVER! Catherine Deneuve is stunning and as
obscure as this movie is to find, FIND IT and MEMORIZE IT! You will be
a changed human being!
* Mildred Pierce, 1945, Joan Crawford's style is legendary. I love
this movie on so many levels. Classic and covertly hilarious. Directed
by Michael Curtiz, this movie put Glendale on the map!
* Capturing The Friedman's, 2003, This documentary is scarier than any
horror film could be! Confusing and chaotic, brace yourself for this
excellently unbiased piece of documentary film making. Directed by
Andrew Jarecki.
* Purple Rain, 1984, I'm a child of the 80's, what can I say? And what
do I really need to tell you about Prince? Music and Fashion hand in
hand, an awesome time capsule directed by Albert Magnoli.
* Reservoir Dogs, 1992, Quentin Tarantino kicked in the door so hard
with this brilliant piece of cinema! If you haven't seen this movie
watch it at your next slumber party!
* Shall We Dance, 1937, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire dancing on a
cruise ship, what more do you need? O.K. they roller-dance as well! I
love Ginger's clothes in this musical that really gets overshadowed by
other films by this dynamic duo, but I hold this one dear to my heart.
Directed by Mark Sandrich.
*Taxi Driver, 1976, Martin Scorsese directs Robert De Niro..... This
movie is Bad-Ass! Jodie Foster's wardrobe alone is worth watching this
film. Travis Bickle is a passionate, violent, complex character that
you don't want to mess with!
* Bowling For Columbine, 2002, This documentary by Michael Moore
exposes our violent nation in a way that only Michael Moore can. This
movie preceded Fahrenheit 9/11 and is in many ways, a more poignant
and powerful look into the subconscious of our American lives.
*Up In Smoke, 1978, Cheech and Chong made cinematic and comedic
history with this insane, drug induced must-see! Directed by Lou
Adler, this movie works whether you're stoned or sober, check it out
man!
*It's A Wonderful Life, 1946, If you're suicidal like I know you are,
this film will make you change your mind. A powerful piece of
Hollywood cinema directed by Frank Capra. James Stewart is the
ultimate actor, highly imitated, never duplicated!
* Saan Gaang Yi, Three...Extremes, 2004, Directed by Fruit Chan, Takashi Miike, and Chan-wook Park. Disturbing! This trilogy is what nightmares are made of. Bai Ling is so incredible in the "Dumplings" segment that all of her fashion disasters are forgiven. Yeah, that good! * Amores Perros, 2000, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu directs a perfectly woven masterpiece of cinema. This film cemented the future of brilliant actor, Gael Garcia Bernal. I saw this film in Los Angeles when it was first released and it instantly became my favorite film. I was fully engaged for the entire 153 minutes! The subtitles during the start of the film were out of register with the movie screen, so it give me a reason to ask the manager to allow me to watch it again for free. I'm always surprised that so many have never seen this explosively visual film- a definite "Must-See" Picture. * There Will Be Blood, 2007, yet another stunning piece of storytelling by director, Paul Thomas Anderson. Leading actor, Daniel Day-Lewis is God's gift to our times. * No Country For Old Men, 2007, Directed by Ethan & Joel Coen this amazingly complex and terrifying thriller was executed flawlessly. Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and Woody Harrelson are the foundation of an unforgettable cast and Oscar-winning Picture.

I just had to introduce you to one of the most delusional people I've come across in ages. This woman does nothing but talk about Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, Angelina Jolie, and the other famous she knows all day. If you have time, check out the rest of her videos. This is insanity run amok. And I'm supposed to believe the woman in the yellow wife beater is personal friends with the Pope, yeah!
The cover article on Heidi Klum in the "Page Six Magazine" of today's "NY Post" mentions "the sixth season of 'Project Runway,' which drew a record-breaking 4.2 million viewers with its premiere episode." Hmmm. Could that have had anything to do with its lead-in that night, "Project Runway All-Star Challenge?"
I had a cocktail and was running around singing "Tim Gunn, Tim Gunn, if he calls your name you're done! Where is Andre???" So I thought I would say hi and send some love.
Hey, All-Star! I won't EVEN ask how things are going. Just want you to know that a glamorous eccentric in Texas is thinking of you and sending blessings and magic your way. ssssmoooooooooch!!!!
