SAP(e) is a minimal improvised music trio based in Montpellier (South of France) and working since 2001. Its menbers comes from different musical backgrounds, such as Post Rock, Jazz, Electronic and Acousmatic music. Together, they are creating a common language based on an extreme care towards the listening experience and the restriction of material. Sonic landscapes shaped in radicality throught precise dynamics and events are leading the listeners to a distant and precarious dream where a melodic dimension is not forgotten.
A quartet at first, SAP(e) has quickly turned into a trio format with the goal of increasing and rendering more efficient his minimal willingness. The band has allways took care in documenting his work, even if the recording process in the case of improvised music may seems a bit frustrating or incomplete. To balance this aspect, they carefully select the material that appear on their records, in order to leave the listener with something enjoyable in itself.
Their second release, recorded live at “Le Baloard” (Montpellier) in june 2006, is out on April, 14th 2007 on the “Rude Awakening Présente” records label.
February 2008 sees the trio collaborating with two great contemporary outings of minimalism in sound : the frenchman Sylvain Chauveau (ON, Ensemble O, etc...) and the great Bernhard Günter from Deutchland, wich is responsible for some of the most innovative work in 1990's and 2000's electro-acoustic music. A record will birth out of this encounter.
