About me:
Sandra Alice was born and raised in New York City. She explored many areas of interest throughout her childhood in the arts ranging from music, dance and fine art. Throughout her life, she was always a very “girly girl,” loving clothing, make up, shoes and playing dress up. Exploring the career of fashion styling seemed her natural pursuit.
After receiving her degree from New York University in Italian Language and Civilization, she ventured down various career paths. “My life and my choices were always my own; I don’t feel I follow a normal path and I like it that way. Reflecting on my life, everything seems very zig zag. I’ve mastered the art of discovering life as I go along. Not allowing yourself to be confined by a formula may be unsettling at times but I feel it’s the only way for me to live and be true to myself. I absolutely love fashion styling. Creating the concept, searching for each individual piece, putting it all together, all the possibilities for combinations, the magic of a photo shoot, collaborating with other artists, sorting through the images to create a story. It’s career with amazing opportunities.”
Creating Sapphire Whisper marked the realization of a long term dream. Launching first online this September 2008 and plans already in motion to move into print in the near future.
Mission Statement
Sapphire Whisper defines fashion as an artistic expression deeply affected by our collective conscious. As a fashion stylist, Sandra Alice, creator of Sapphire Whisper, recognizes the immense power of collaboration which is present in every element of a fashion photo. Fashion itself references various periods of time, film, cultures, celebrities, street fashion, not to mention the work of other designers and artists and so on. Sapphire Whisper embarks on the ambitious task of acknowledging the infinite array of these creative influences. This is our mindset and our approach to fashion as an art, influenced by the world around us, our history and one another.
Born and raised in NYC, Sandra Alice also looked to highlight the vast array of shopping and art available in her native city. Providing information on both large and small boutiques to our viewers to reflect the possibilities for creative expression through clothing and accessories while at the same time giving due credit and exposure to the enterprising shop owners and designers. Retail also plays a strong part of the creativity process, from the fashion buyers decisions and interpretation to the individual’s influence in the public response.
The title Sapphire Whisper stands as a symbol representing Sandra Alice’s dream to create her online magazine and her desire to encourage others to be true to their own unique dreams and ambitions. The whisper is the voice inside us all, which calls to us to pursue what we truly feel we are meant to do; with the many obstacles life may throw our way, this voice may be very soft and easy to get lost in our day to day lives. Sapphire, the birthstone of Sandra an avid follower of astrology, emphasizes that this soft voice is indeed precious and beautiful, it may be soft and delicate but it is luxurious and shinning. Highlighting all the profiles of the retailers, designers, artists and collaborating photographers, make up artists, hair stylists, models and so forth, serves to demonstrate the examples of those who are listening to that voice. Every city block in New York City, contain one establishment next to the other, each with its own unique story, each person who took a chance to pursue what they truly wanted. Even the large enterprises began at some point from this same perspective. Sapphire Whisper looks to reflect the inspiration around us all if we adjust our eyes to see it and reflect upon its message.
Above all, the site works to convey a positive message. Although fashion is a fast paced lucrative business, we look to highlight its fun and playful side. Make your own decisions about what’s in and what’s out, I just want to share my impressions and inspirations of what I love.
