Saq's passion for music started from a young age where he grew up listening to a wide range of artists covering various genres.
“My CD collection was as diverse as you can get. I was listening to artists such as N.W.A, Ice Cube, Michael Jackson, Sasha & Digweed, Carl Cox & LTJ Bukem to name a few”
Saq started off by DJ'ing at local parties and clubs, mainly in the house scene. As his musical interest grew, he started to incorporate these genres into his DJ sets. Typical sets would contain garage, house, hip-hop and drum & bass.
After purchasing his first PC, Saq started to be creative with the software based 808 and 909 Drum machines. His creative work didn’t go un-noticed as local radio stations were often providing listeners with the opportunity to hear Saq’s offerings.
However, one noticeable absence from his CD collection was Bhangra / Indian music.
“I took an interest in Bhangra as the people around me were constantly listening to it”
After his initial exposure to Bhangra music, Saq decided to explore this genre further by listening to greats such as Kuldip Manak, Gurdas Mann, Surinder Shinda & Surjit Bindrakhia. He started to mix this new interest in Bhangra into the hip-hop & house beats which he was creating at home, which eventually led to the beginning of his first commercial project…Stop, Look, Listen.
Stop, Look, Listen features 12 tracks showcasing some of the hottest vocalists from Punjab, including Lehmber Hussainpuri, Surinder Shinda, Bikram Singh, Manak-E + more. The tracks are heavily influenced by Saq’s musical interests as the flavours range from Hip Hop to Reggaeton, not to forget traditional Bhangra.
Since the release of his first album, Saq has produced tracks for VIP Record’s Pure Desi Vol 2, KS Bhamrah, and also for Blitzkrieg…Canada’s no.1 MC. “Time To Educate” showcases some hard hitting lyrics by ‘Blitz’ as he politely educates the listeners with some political knowledge.
“Time To Educate is the perfect track. The beat and lyrics complement each other well as they both have that militant / political vibe.”
2008 see’s Saq releasing the “Ayo Grimeology” bootleg, which once again shows the depth and creativity on offer from Saq. You can be sure that there are many more releases to come throughout 2008, and keep posted on www.myspace.com/saqproductionsuk for all the news and updates.
