Reading cookbooks and dancing at 4:00 a.m.! Not at the same time, of course. But then again, anything is possible. Making fancy food and desserts. Menu development. Japanese knives. French mandolins. South/Central American cuisine. Eating cheese and drinking red wine. Vietnamese and Indian pickles. Banh Mi. A nice cup of tea with lots of milk, and a little sugar in the winter - PG Tips is good. Sun tea with lots of lemon in the summer. Chicken fried steak and Texas toast. Pie -- especially cherry. Braising in the winter, grilling in the summer. Picnics in the park. Fort Greene Park is especially nice. I also like Prospect Park. Looking for parks in Raleigh. Driving around the country in big trucks. Birch trees in the Winter, Poplar trees in the Spring and Maples in the Fall. Pine trees all year long. How people looked anywhere from the 1920's to the 1940's. How buildings looked anywhere from the 1200's to the 1930's. Espana. Canada! Minnewiki. Looking for jobs that allow me to cook in distant lands, or at least within the Raleigh beltline. Looking out my window and wishing there was a train nearby. Hangin' at the dog park in Tompkins Square. Being nostalgic about Minneapolis and LA, and now NYC. Block parties. Mad Scientists. Wondering why I always end up in hotter climates than New York's in August, when I really, really hate hot weather. Sitting on my front step and watching the red tail hawks. Kitties - especially Penelope and Agnes, but Pink, Blue, Bodey, Keisha and Luna are pretty cool too.

Also, lately I have a fascination with Norwegian (or Scandinavian in general) black metal. I don't really listen to all that much of it, but I think the culture is sort of amusing. It's the Minnesotan in me! And did I mention The Fall??? Some newish things that I've been listening to lately: Witch Hats, Torche and Thomas Dybdahl.
Movies
Donnie Darko, Goodfellas, Death and the Maiden, 28 Days Later, Shawshank Redemption, Notorious, Paris, TX, Boogie Nights, Usual Suspects, Kill Bill, Bridges of Madison County, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, River's Edge, John Hughes' movies, "I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream", and Grease. Oh, and that Def Leppard movie that was on VH1. Captivating, to say the least. Oh yeah!
Unfortunately, though, in the movies, I am...
The Zombie Movie Survival Quiz
You're big. You're bad. You're scary as hell. Even zombies would run from you (if they had enough intelligence to do so). You are scarier than any undead minion. Yes, the title of bad ass head villian falls to you alone. Like Nemesis from Resident Evil 3, you are scary as hell and have one thing on your mind, death and carnage of the hero. Usually, however, you end up dead in the end. Too bad. Take this quiz!
I've been finding myself watching a lot of the health channel. I love the emergency room shows, and also I love the medical mystery shows. The other day there was a show on where a kid had what they suspected was a tumor in his abdomen. Well, it wasn't! It was actually his parasitic twin. It was all balled up, and had long hair, and you could see what looked like hands and feet. The Eraserhead baby had nothing on this creature. Let me see, I also like food shows, but not so much on the Food Network. Food Network is to food, as MTV is to music. Other topics that circulate through the TV: animals, home refurbishing/purchasing, science, and biographies.
Books
Yes. Mostly of the cookery variety. Larousse Gastronomique, On Food and Cooking, any James Peterson, Elizabeth David, and Diana Kennedy. Dorothy Parker. And of course, I would never forget Mr. Anthony Bourdain. Paul Bowles. Augusten Boroughs. Down and Out in Paris and London. Hesse. Also bios of tortured types, like Zelda Fitzgerald, or Frances Farmer. 20th century music history, too. One of my last reads was The Replacements; All Over but the Shouting. It made me miss Minneapolis and the Midwest in general, a lot!
You're Siddhartha!
by Hermann Hesse You simply don't know what to believe, but you're willing to try
anything once. Western values, Eastern values, hedonism and minimalism, you've spent
some time in every camp. But you still don't have any idea what camp you belong in.
This makes you an individualist of the highest order, but also really lonely. It's
time to chill out under a tree. And realize that at least you believe in
ferries.

at the Blue Pyr
A true blue Minnesota girl, but I've lived in LA for three years, NYC for ten and even in Jersey for a minute or two! And now? I live in North Carolina and like it quite a bit. Surprising, but true. I spent the past couple of years traveling around the country, feeding musicians and their crews in stadiums, arenas and remote music festival locations. It was nice, and often I enjoyed it, but now I'm cooking for Raleighites at a lovely little restaurant/wine bar in the city. Is it time to settle into Raleigh? We shall see.
What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central
"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.
Who I'd like to meet: Dorothy Parker, Nikki Sudden and Julia Child -- all at the same time. I would mix up some classic Manhattans in well chilled, crystal cocktail glasses, and serve boeuf bourguignon made with a nice bordeaux. I'd also like to meet fellow chefs and people who are crazy about food and cooking. People who love the music, and smart people with big hearts are pretty good too.
