   Sarah Darer Littman's Blurbs
About me:
I'm the author of "Confessions of a Closet Catholic" (Dutton, 2005 - paperback May 2006) which won the 2006 Sydney Taylor Book Award for Older Readers. My second novel PURGE, a "poignant yet funny journey of a teenager winning her battle with bulimia," will be published by Scholastic in Spring 2009. As a recovered bulimic, who has suffered from poor body image most of her life, it's something I can write about from first hand experience and the subject of focusing on how women look rather than on developing who they really *are* is a topic to which I bring a great deal of passion. I'm busy working on various other writing project. I'm a firm believer that chocolate (especially dark chocolate) is the Elixir of Life, that life's too short to be miserable, and humor can be found in even the darkest moments if you look hard enough. I write fiction for tweens and teens and political columns for grown ups. As E.L. Doctorow said, "Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia".

I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V3.6!

Who I'd like to meet:
Creative people with a good sense of humor. Life's too short not to laugh. And Also.......................... Readers of my books, potential readers of my books. Librarians. Booksellers. Teachers. Readers of my column. People who want to pay to syndicate my column nationally. Pretty Please. I'm good. Just ask my public. Parents of kids with Aspergers Syndrome or Type I diabetes. I have one of each. Teens who have or have recovered from eating disorders.

I just finished reading the galley advanced reader's copy of Purge, and I just wanted to say that I really liked it. The book meant a lot to me personally, and I was really able to connect with Janie, which is something that I really appreciate in books.

I just got your book in the mail yesterday! It's really, really fabulous so far and I can tell you put your heart on the page. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you to write; I've had some "body image problems", nothing serious, though, and for me, it's hard to write about it. I really admire you and think it is amazing. Will review it soon!

I LOVE the raisin scene.
It made me smile and want to go try it!

Thanks for the friendship! Hope you're having a great summer. It's sad how many girls I knew in high school with eating disorders. Your book will definitely find its audience and I hope it helps them.
