Bio
.......... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ...... By definition, soulful is someone or something that is deeply or sincerely emotional. While many singers can tout this, Sara is an artist who truly embodies soul. From the moment she began to speak, music was the prevailing outlet through which she expressed her emotion. At home in Arkansas, Sara felt an early connection to music. Her mother sang at church, while her father preached and each one of her nine siblings would join in offering their own very musical signature to what would become life defining for Sara and some of her siblings. While she had no idea then that music would take her so far, in her heart she knew that for good or bad; for better or worse music would be a lifetime companion. Sure enough as she grew, Sara and her sisters became known throughout their city as an uplifting gospel group simply called ‘Divine’. The experiences she gathered in this group sealed her fate as an artist. She began writing and sharing her songs during this time, a feat that emboldened and encouraged Sara. Many years of writing and performing followed. She attended college at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and then at New York University. During those New York University days music began to fulfill some of Sara’s wildest dreams. She began singing immediately at artist lounge’s and other New York venues and as people took notice work soon followed. She sang background for Ace of Base, Bilal and Tweet. She sang some very successful jingles for Campbell’s soup, Clairol hair products, Folgers and so on. Her songs have been chosen to appear in movies such as ‘The Woodsman’, ‘Beauty Shop’ and ‘American Shopper’. She recorded songs with greats such as Lisa Lisa, Marc Anthony, Anita Baker and Aretha Franklin, whose song ‘Wonderful’ went on to win a Grammy. She considered herself blessed then, but she really began to grow as an artist when after singing her first showcase of her own original material, she was signed to Columbia records. At Columbia records, she recorded ‘Beautiful.’ The album was never released, but many songs from this album found their way to connect with people who have become true Sara fans. Songs such as ‘Beautiful’ and ‘Special’, which was written for her 5 sisters and ‘Take me Home’ continued to resonate with fans. These songs were later remixed by DJ Little Louie Vega. He and Sara formed a musical relationship spanning more than eight years today that produced several house songs. The songs, ‘Never Forget (When you Touch Me)’ ‘Life is but A Dream’ and ‘Life Ain’t What it Seems’ have had world wide success, which continues to beckon Sara to far away places all over the world to sing. In between writing and performing her own songs, Sara has been called on often to sing for other great artists, she counts it a privilege to have sung for Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige and Alejandro Sanz. This has given her the ability to soar as an obvious talent and team player, but also in her right as an artist who continues to grow, emote and share today. Her experiences, her stories and her spirit shines through her music and she is always pleased to share this soulfulness with the world. .. -
