Music
Update time: things that make you go, oooh. random pretty female folky types who have lovely voices and lyrics. ugly rockers that make me pretend i can sing on my way round the ring road (which way was it again? argh).
Movies
300, The Lost Boys, Garfield Xmas Special!!! the Eddie Murphy dragon in Mulan, Napoleon Dynamite, (I've always wanted a llama!), Donnie Darko, cheesy 80s movies, STARDUST oh my GOD. And, how could I forget, We're Off To See The Wizard... (for all the illusions and disillusions; a metaphor for life). Poor Judy, did you know they put things in her nostrils to make her nose look perkier? So i heard...
Television
Smallville, Heroes, Stuff Like That...
Books
'Electricity' - Ray Robinson OK: 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath, 'Troll: A Love Story' by Johanna Sinisalo, 'Bareback' by Kit Whitfield (no, it is not rude), 'Crash' JG Ballard (isn't sick, makes you think), Jean Rhys stuff, my mate Warren's eccentric existential and somehow everyday life poetry and 'The Houdini Girl' by Martin Bedford (though he didn't let me in to Manchester so may change my mind about *him*). And The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold; pure genius.
Heroes
Yogi Bear (my dog-wog, RIP munchkin, not the fat cartoon character) oh yeah and my nan too (big up Mrs Chong) cos she never ever bitched about anybody, weirdo - I TRY (I fail, a bit,) to follow!
I have 1 cheekily romantic paperback out (ya know what I mean, nudge wink, available from Amazon.com), a few paranormal/romance ebooks, and I'm working on my MA novella Drawing Alice.
I've just started a PhD in Creative Writing at Lancaster University, where I'm 'interested' (no I am, honest) in the symbiosis between critical theory and creative writing. I want to explore the ambiguity of gender, voice, identity and consciousness, and whether writing can be restrictive or liberating.
I teach a first year class, tutor locally, and also write *sensual* romance, keyword here, and my short story Ghost in the Mechanic was broadcast in February as part of BBC7's scifi/fantasy/horror New Writing series, Bloodlines.
My first novel, Game, Set, Love-Match was published in April 2006 by Siren.
Thanks for adding Crows on the Cross - I hear you should be wary - be very wary...

Franz Kafka, in his Letter to Oskar Pollak, said, “I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us...We need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us.”
Crows on the Cross is such a book. Two lovers wake up a thousand miles apart . . haunted by ghosts and memories buried deep beneath the surface, horrors and revelations unfold as the miles click down and they speed toward each other through a day and night of fevered delirium.
“This is a book that shows us both men and women are susceptible to the real-life monsters that live and breathe all around us. In a red '69 Caddy, you'll ride right along side them and delve right into their pasts, becoming white knuckled by the end wanting to destroy their demons for them.”
-Lauren Ferrell, Publisher
“The demons Kristy Tallman creates in this book are too real, so real it will change the way you look at the common passerby every time you walk out your front door. Tallman has done it again! Her ability to turn the pages of a novel into a real to life psychological hell for the reader by showing you that the genuine horror in this world is our very own human race has again been accomplished with an encore for more. Tallman has definitely surpassed the expectations I held after reading The All-Souls Faire. She managed to shock me to the core and horrify me like no other author has in a long time! Excellent!”
True, but novels can have big teeth too! Very easy to get stuck writing shorts and never get around to the big one. Reckon you have the right attitude!
Just to let you know that we are playing in The Tavern in Wigan tomorrow (3rd Jan), so if you fancy blowing away the New Year Cobwebs, we would love to see you there!
Doors open about 7.30 and we will be on stage some time around 9-ish, but it may be later! So come down and see all 3 bands.
If you are available and coming down, then please let us know, and dont forget to bring your mates with you too!
