Our SIX (ignore the 99 refrence, technical blip)year old daughter Sarah was born at just 24 weeks and this level of prematurity has presented her with many problems. In the first 3 weeks she fought chronic lung disease, septaecemia, a p.d.a heart condition
which is a hole in the heart and many other common infections.
Every day she faced a new challenges in her fight for life and it wasnt clear whether or not sarah would survive,her turning came after 3 weeks when she came off the ventilator and was breathing well on her own.
She struggled but improved over the next while and at 8 weeks old and still 8 weeks premature she had laser eye surgery to save her sight, as her retinas were almost detached from the back of her eyes This condition is called r.o.p (retinopathy of prematurity) without the surgery she would be completely blind today.
Sarah was diagnosed with a severe hearing loss at the age of 1 and at the age of 2 she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy,which affects her mobility, balance and co-ordination.
In May 06, thanks to the support of family, friends and a fantastic community sarah had surgery in Barcelona which straightened her legs and allowed her heels to touch the ground for the first time.
We had previously been told without this procedure she would never walk, her progress since has been fantastic and through the help of intense physiotherapy she can now stand and walk short distances with support and has far better range of mobilaty.
With just a little more help to retrain her muscles to gain stability and balance Sarah will achieve her full potential and independance, however for this to be possible she must avail of an intense realignment therapy in America, this treatment will align her whole body in the correct posture and will help her walk.
Sarah is a self driven, strong willed, determined 6 year old little girl. Your donation would be sincerely appreciated and will help her reach her goals.
