Curt Shaw/Pat Sprakes: guitar; John Watterson, Ian Beestin: percussion/drums; Geoff Pearson/Rich Keates, bass
Influences
Norma Winstone, Karen Carpenter, Blossom Dearie, Maria Pia de Vito, Dusty Springfield, Julie Andrews, Anita O'Day, Jim Morrison and Barbra Streisand also early hallucinogenic Pink Floyd and Kate Bush apparently.
I also like: Norma, EST, Acoustic Triangle, Azimuth, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Tord Gustavsen Trio, 4 in Perspective (Norma, Kenny, Paul Clarvis and Fred Hersch), Scottish Guitar Quartet, Ralph Towner and John Surman.
Sounds Like
"Drawing from a voluminous stylistic well, with influences ranging from folk, pop and classical music as well as jazz, the music could perhaps best be described as an unlikely mash-up of contemporary British influences; the hallucinatory lyrical content of early Pink Floyd meets the trenchant individuality of Kate Bush, filtered through the musical sensibilities of Norma Winstone. It’s deeply quirky and, at times, wonderful." Review of Astronomer's Guest in Jazzwise, Dec '06
Sarah Bennett has had a jazz band since 1997 and her various bands have played all over the UK.
The band's 2001 CD, "Willow's Song", is a mix of standards, contemporary jazz pieces, bossa and the title track, "Willow's Song", featured in the 1973 English cult film "The Wicker Man".
Two tracks from Willow's Song featured on Best of Jazz, November 2002 on Radio 2 and Jazz Record Requests, January 2004 on Radio 3.
"The Astronomer's Guest" appeared in September 2006, comprising all original pieces. Now working on a project with by guitarist Curt Shaw (Curt writes the music, I write the words); do have a listen to Rye above.

Hello! Just wanted to drop in and let you know that pre-orders for my new jazz standards album "Bittersweet" are now taking place! The first 100 pre-orders will receive a signed and numbered copy! Release date is set for May 19th, but you will get your copy a few days earlier! Kate and I are very excited about the record, and we can't wait for you to hear it. Head over to www.bittersweetthealbum.com to pre-order! Thanks! ~Mark
The entire album is a testament to good jazz. The rhythm section sounds great, both individually and as a unit, complimenting Andrew’s lyrical style perfectly.
Obrigado, Sarah. You're Portugese is brilliant, as is your voice and band, thank you for being a friend since '06! Hope all is well. For the last few years I've been working on my friend Jeff's new CD, in order to help him get the money for medicine he really needs to combat the Crohns Disease. We are done, and with no corporate interference! Here's a present for you, . This is a free sneak preview of one song from the new album "Cycle Of Life" - Jeff Stetson. Jeff has been a Pasadena guitar teacher since the early 70s. This is called "Deliver Me From Me" and features Jeff Stetson on vocals, guitars and composer; Max Vasquez(me) producer/arranger, B3 Hammond organ, percussion, slide guitar and bass; and the great Forrest Robinson on drums. Recorded in my humble little studio, it is a mix I made before the final mastered track comes back from the lab. I'll have it up for about a week on my blog(subscription only). Then, I'll do a new one every week at release time, here and on the Jeff Stetson page. Keep in touch, . Keep in touch. Enjoy and Happy New Year !
"At last a follow up to Janette Mason's sparkling debut as leader. Alien Left Hand ....was well worth the wait…” Production **** Performance**** -- BBC Music Magazine
“…an album fizzing with fresh ideas and delights, an exhilarating musical journey .. with brilliantly original writing and inspired playing…” -- Helen Mayhew
"Every track from the rhythmic ‘NY Cab Ride’ and restless ‘4 Wheel Drive’ to the brooding ‘Mae’s Song’ has a terrific hook but it’s the way Mason switches tempo and moods that makes ALH great fun. " -- Diva Magazine

Thank you all for the tremendous support and those wonderful comments.
Remember I only can get you a free copy of my New Release if you send me a "COMMENT" I don't want to miss any of you who have been with me during the beginning of this Journey.
Please keep those "COMMENTS" coming and tell your friend to pass by to if you would be so kind.
thanks Sarah - that track was fun to do (...I must properly finish it at some point...)
your CD arrived today and I'm really looking forward to checking it out on the way to my gig tonight - it's 75 miles away so I'll be very familiar with it by the time I get home!
PS That really is a lovely and innovative version of 'Inutil Paisagem', by the way. It never would have occurred to me to use that kind of insistent jazz-samba style on the guitar, but it works brilliantly. Hats off to you!
Hi Sarah! Thanks for that: it was very nice of you to reply. Not surprisingly, I'm extremely keen on your music, and I hope we can have a chat at the mjf (maybe after your set?). See you then, I hope. All the best, Simon
