I write songs that have been recorded by people like Ruth Brown, Marcia Ball, Irma Thomas, Little Queenie, Bill Kirchen, Ann Rabson, Angela Strehli, Tracy Nelson, Rosie Flores, Candye Cane and Joe Louis Walker.
Starting in the 70s, Sarah Brown has been a name in the
international blues and roots music scene.
Her playing/touring/recording credits are long and varied. Some of
them:
Blues: Big Walter Horton, Johnny Shines, sunnyland Slim, Buddy
Guy, Otis Rush and Albert Collins.....
Roots musicians:
Dave Alvin, Bill Kirchen, Rosie Flores, and Wanda Jackson...
British rockers:
Paul Carrack, Ian McLagan and Billy Bragg....
Sarah has appeared on Austin City Limits backing Billy
Bragg.
Sarah is interviewed and featured in live footage in the recently
released DVD "Antone's: Home of the Blues".
Sarah was part of the Antones House Band during the 80s and early
90s. She appears on many live and studio recordings from the Antones
days.
Sarah appears on over 50 recordings, including her own CD, "Sayin
What I'm Thinkin" on the Blind Pig label.
She has been profiled
in Bass Player magazine, was awarded "best bass player" in the Austin
Music Polls 4 times, , and was nominated for two W.C. Handy awards
Her songs have been recorded by such notables as R&B legend Ruth
Brown and New Orleans star Irma Thomas, as well as Marcia Ball, Joe
Louis Walker, Rosie Flores and more, and on upcoming releases by Bill
Kirchen and Leigh "Little Queenie" Harris.
2006 release "In A Honky Tonk Mood" by The Lucky Tomblin Band,
features both her singing and her bass, and in in current radio
rotation.
Sarah is currently resides in Austin, Texas and maintains an active
career, playing, writing, teaching and recording.
