After years of hammering on a Hasbro xylophone revealed a precocious musical talent, Sarah's parents enrolled her in piano lessons. Perhaps if they had known that piano lessons would lead to a torrid life of debaucherous rock and roll, they would never have made her practice those sonatas.
By the age of thirteen, Sarah grew tired of those sonatas, and turned her affections to the old guitar under the piano. The guitar -- a weathered but beautiful classical guitar from Spain -- had spent most of Sarah's life living under the piano in a beat up case. Her father had stopped playing the instrument years ago, but kept it as a link to his teenage years in Madrid.
Feeling compassion for the lonely instrument, Sarah picked up the guitar and started lessons. It didn't take long before she had written her first song on the guitar, "Dirty Man," a feminist protest against sexual harassment.
Since then, Sarah has continued to write songs with various sounds and feels, ranging from soft and mellow to lurid and rough. In 2003 she took her songs to the stage and has since been rocking the house in and around Toronto.
Sarah plays solo or with band, and loves collaborating with all sorts. In late 2007 she released her debut EP, Love is for Pussies, with Juno award-winning producer, John Switzer. Featured on this disk are Gary Craig (on drums), Steve Briggs (on guitar) and Switzer himself (on bass).
Since then Sarah has kept up a steady touring schedule and continues to work with many talented musicians across the country. She is now putting the finishing touches on her first full-length album, Mayflower, with producer, Andre Skinner (of Canteen Knockout).
With her right hand man, Matt Blackie (on drums and back-ups), Grady Kelneck (on mandolin and miniature pump organ), Olesh Maksimiy (on lead guitar and pedal steel), touring mate, Diana Catherine (on harmonica), and Skinner (on bass and various treats), the new release boasts a fresh sound that is sweet but rough around the edges, diverse, but cohesive. Listen on myspace for a sneak preview of some of what's to come, and look out for the full-lenght album, Mayflower, in 2010.

Sarah, we listened to your album quite a bit on tour when we were driving. I'm so stoked for your CD coming out next year! You've got some great songwriting. We had a great time on tour. Just getting back from traveling since August and my head is starting to clear from the chaos of the tour. It was a true honour singing with you back in October. If you have any photos, please send my way. We'll have to do it again next year with a lot more lead time and a better salle/night. I received over 200 emails since then from people in Montreal saying they got the invites too late and will definitely come next time. All the best with your continued success, you have a captivating voice and I love your style! Tom says hello, too! Oh, and great review from the Kate Voegele concert! xx Leah
I hate that commenting on people's status thing. It doesn't notify you if someone replies. If you're using Internet explorer, changing your web browser might help. The google web browser is free to download and works great.
We love your stuff as you know already.. can you help??
We have an outstanding song we wish to be published for another artist or released as is. It has everything from superb backing harmonies from a quire to a blistering solo and well thought out melody lines. Please hear the song on our myspace soon, it has the backing of the press and radio as it standing this month. We wish to raise money for charity with it's sale. If you care about children please hear the song out. The song is called "Children in need". Can you help or know someone who can aid us on our quest? Please comment back on our myspace to at least give us encouragement to make this happen. God bless you.. we would be honored to hear from you.
