   About sarah collyer
Sarah is a contemporary Jazz vocalist, songwriter and performer based in Brisbane, Australia. Sarah has performance credits throughout Australia and Malaysia and holds a Masters of Music from the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University. Sarah is also an accomplished session singer, voice teacher and radio announcer. Over the past ten years, Sarah has performed and recorded with a wide variety of musicians throughout Australia. Sarah was a founding member of North Queensland jazz group “Ulysses Blue” and a coordinator for the festival of the first flag choir, which brought together over fifty choirs from the region. Sarah has also been featured soloist with the popular 1RAR band, held residencies at Melbourne’s Jet Lounge and Idibidi Café and performed throughout Victoria as a member of A cappella group “The Harrison Street Quartet”. With this group Sarah also featured on Melbourne band “Wagons” ’ critically acclaimed album Draw Blood. Also in Melbourne, Sarah recorded an early EP with Jazz Guitarist Craig Fermanis (The band who knew too much), Bassist Rodrigo Aravena and Drummer Rajiv Jayaweera, which featured three Sarah Collyer originals. Sarah is a prolific songwriter and is able to write music in a broad range of styles. In 2005, Sarah’s work as a singer/songwriter was rewarded when she won the Gilhooley’s singer/songwriter competition. Throughout this time Sarah also became a regular on the indie music scene, performing frequently on the acoustic stage at the Indie Temple and also at the Troubadour and Verve Café. Sarah has performed on the same bill as Indie pop princess Emma Dean, Blues siren Lana Martino Smith and jazz legend Vince Jones, amongst others, at the 2High festival, the Valley Jazz Festival and Maggie Blacks. Sarah was also delighted to be a finalist in the ABC 612 Jazz Singers competition. Firmly schooled in the jazz genre, Sarah’s Music is also heavily influenced by blues, funk, pop, reggae and hip hop, as well as accapella.

‘that’s just how I like it…’

And here it is, Sunday. And I’m listening to you for the first time. I’m at the lounge where you’re singing, and it’s Sunday.

It looks like I’ll see you next Sunday.

The Quills

Nov 25 2007 12:37 PM

Hey sarah it's Dave from The Quills. How's it going?

I just wanted to let you know we've recently finished recording our debut EP "Some New Place" and the songs from the record are now available to preview on our page. We hope you like it.

We're also launching the EP next month:

When: Thursday 13 December
Where: The Globe Theatre, Brunswick Street, The Valley
Doors: 7:30pm
Quills: 9:30pm
You can buy tickets: www.globetheatre.com.au, or at Rocking Horse and Skinny's

It's going to be our biggest show yet. We're playing new songs for the first time. There will be Quills merch for the first time. It will generally be a show the likes of which we've never played before.

It'd be great if you could make it.

Thanks for being a friend.

I really like your song 'So Easy'. Your voice is very easy to listen to. I love the jazzy, bluesy accoustic bass line with the bell tone guitar work. Great writing and great performing!
