"The tunes often skip along her peppy strumming and an eager, near-breathless vocal style, keeping up with lots of self-deprecation and goofy details"...The Onion
"Her most attractive artistic qualities are her voice (firm but playful) and her simplistic (you could call it graceful) approach to the writing process"...Chris Potter
"phenomenal, engaging, and real...in addition to having a beautiful voice, great chops, and a pen to be envious of"...Apple iTunes
"Delightfully funky"...Diana Crane
"She practically attacked her guitar, and her left hand clocked a lot of mileage on the fret board. Her songs are restless, almost unable or unwilling to slow down and let you catch up. A supple and spirited vocal, and an engaging presence. And the songs are interesting and quirky."...Z. Mulls
Sarah Donner is a rockstar catlady kind of girl. Quirky lyrics about hardcore mosh pits and feral feline populations give her songs a captivating edge. She works the stage with a rhythmic guitar style, a fresh melodic line, and a candid stage presence that is all Sarah Donner.
'The Sleep You've Been Missing' is a healthy combo of indie rock sensibility and singer/songwriter intimacy with notes of electronic influences. Her debut album 'Reluctant Cat Lady' is a wholesome low-carb blend of punchy guitar and clever, sassy lyrics that take their inspiration from the gay men she dated, the feral cats she feeds, and the hardcore punk shows she has endured. Take out the cliche and throw in the Casio keyboard.
Her ever-increasing influences include artists Fiona Apple, Ben Folds, Ani Difranco, Regina Spektor, Holly O'Reilly, the ocean, kittens, London, pink cars, and cheap wine. In 2002 with a degree in music from Westminster Choir College, she picked up a guitar, denied her classical roots, and started rocking out.
Her heart lives in New Jersey and Massachusetts, and she wishes Connecticut wasn't so big. Sarah Donner is also the host and founder of Indie Music Night, an acclaimed monthly series featuring premium live music held in Princeton, NJ.
'The Sleep You've Been Missing' and 'Reluctant Cat Lady' are available on CD Baby. 'Reluctant Cat Lady' is also available on iTunes and Amazon.
