Influences
I like these and lots more but there's never enough space!...so, for starters:
Bob Dylan, Anne Briggs, Karine Polwart, Tom Waits, Norma Waterson, John Doyle, The Clash, Kirsty Maccoll, Linda Thompson, Nuala Kennedy, Janet Russell, early Steeleye Span!, Robert Johnson, The Old Crow Medicine Show, Manu Chao, Folky, Funky, rocky, bluesy, weirdy, lovely, my friends, people with some soul in it, people who like singing, people who like making music, Everything that managed to filter in!
Hello! I play in The Evil Sweeties, singing, flute and mandolin with Laura Hewison cello and vocals and Jo Cooper on fiddle and banjo and vocals. We play traditional and more contemporary folk mainly from the British Isles and Americas, plus some of our own original songs too. The Evil Sweeties are going quiet for a year or so from summer 2008, due to Jo in Japan and Laura making a solo album and going to the big smoke. They will be back tho' oh yes!
I also sing and play flute, mandolin and sometimes ukulele with The Lonestreet Callers and a new duo with Sally Holden. We are working on getting lots of songs ready at the moment, and its starting to come together!
I've just graduated from doing a folk and traditional music degree at Newcastle University, and am self employed teaching music and doing workshops etc. I just played on a few tracks for Laura Hewisions album which should be ready in September...looking forward to hearing it all!
Try and be happy and work hard and learn is what Im up for right now! x 3rd person writing...shiting...!
Wotcher - Various boxes in at the moment. We've got a few cheap and cheerfuls s/h that could get you started at around £150 or our own "starter box" which is a much classier thing at £199. We've got a s/h pokerwork come in which is also pretty nice (an old German one - VERY loud example) and I'm guessing we'd do that at about £300- I've not priced it up yet though, so if you want first refusal on it, call it £275.
Got to dash - need to phone a guy about a gig bag... More later vis a vis pirates, Cheers, J
OK - I'll check out what we've got in stock at the moment. D/G is more likely than C/F, Bb/Eb etc at the budget end of things but I'll see what I can find for you.
Cheers, Jon
Vis a vis pirate songs, have you got the "Rogues Gallery" Album that came out after Pirates of the carribean - It's actually got some pretty good stuff on it even if the performances are a bit odd sometimes!
Hi - If you're looking for a melodeon, let me know what sort of thing and I'll look one out for you. I run the melodeon dept at The Music Room so just let me know what your after.
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

230 of 230, walkaboutsverse.741.com: AS GOSPELLERS HAVE SAID/CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith’s the star that we glance Attending Christ’s churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

i just realised, the dictionary definition of flim flam is commiting a cunning scam or conspiring to sculduggery.
i don't think thats quite what i meant.
what i meant was- "stooge, tarry, goldbrick, shilly shally, boondoggle, temporise, shlep, encumber, draggle and maybe, even, filibuster.
i hope i've made myself clearer now.

I've taken a brake from Uni, got tired of physics and engineering. Now I work with various folk-projects. Really exciting. Lots of admin-work that I'm not at all qualified to do... I might get back into studying music again after the summer, we'll see what happens.
