| About sarah barnes |
|
Surprisingly, soprano Sarah Barnes holds a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from McGill University, though after realising that she would never actually play the Brandenburg, and would likely continue to cack on all the high notes, she sold her trumpets and turned to singing. After three more years at McGill, she finally left that institution with a Licentiate in Early Music Vocal Performance, and is pleased to announce that her lack of range on the trumpet has not translated to the same problem with the voice. She has performed as a soloist with the Studio de Musique Ancienne de Montreal, the Telemann Ensemble, the Kore Ensemble, the Festival Montreal Baroque, the Banff Summer Arts Festival (Die Zauberflöte), and recorded for ATMA. She has performed with her quartet Ensemble La Rota, at the National Arts Centre, the Indian River Festival, the York Early Music Festival (England), and for the CBC. Sarah is also an active choral singer having performed with numerous groups in Montreal including La Chapelle de Quebec, the Theatre of Early Music, Viva Voce and Ensemble Caprice. During the summer of 2006 she participated in the Opera as Theatre program at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Sarah continues to study voice with Lyne Fortin in Montreal, and in September 2007, she will begin postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London, England. Sarah can also be found moonlighting as a highly unskilled but devoted banjo player who is fascinated by sweet old time sounds of Hobart Smith and Roscoe Holcomb, to name a few. She also enjoys running long distances, cycling through traffic (with a helmet, of course!) and has even completed a couple of triathlons.
