Sarah Mucho arrived in NYC on November 2nd, 1999 at the tender age of 18. Fresh out of high school, with no formal education, she came equipped with only her knowledge of musical theatre, the trumpet and classical voice that she gained all through her youth. She spent the early years wondering about, getting involved in all that she could, trying to figure out what it was exactly that she wanted to do. It was during this time that she became employed at the "world famous" Don't Tell Mama, where she currently remains, and joined her first band, Noxes Pond, a pop/rock act led by Kurt Leege and John DeVore. That's where the story really begins, for it was from that point on that Sarah started honing her skills as a vocalist/musician/lyricist and began defining herself as an artist. People started to notice.
"In the case of the recently regrouped Noxes Pond, word on the street is to be believed: their new lead singer is amazing. Sarah Mucho, all five feet one and maybe a hundred pounds of her, belts like a 300 pound black blueswoman from the 1940s." -Alan Young, Trifectagram
"Sarah Mucho's powerful tones are refined and unusual." -Thom White, CITIZINE Magazine
In 2003 Sarah and Kurt, along with Paul Pouthier, formed the acclaimed rock band System Noise (myspace.com/systemnoise), later joined by David Smith. The System Noise sound blends diverse musical backgrounds with exceptional musicianship to transform traditional rock & roll. The music is robust yet ethereal, organic yet precise and, above all, distinctively System Noise. They are about to release a new album and begin touring.
“Blondie + Fugazi + Hillbilly Frankenstein + Talking Heads + P.I.L. + Television + King Crimson = System Noise. Art rock for a whole new generation.” -J.R. Oliver, EarCandyMag
"They are unmatched in intensity by any other band in town right now. System Noise are going places nobody’s gone before, blending elements of noise rock, art rock, funk, metal and even hip-hop with a scorching, high-voltage live show." -Alan Young, Trifectagram
Sarah's first attempt at a more theatrical experience was her take on the David Bowie album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars" which was highly successful. In August of 2005, System Noise along with talented friends Clare Cooper and Michael Isaacs, debuted an electrifying show that was in demand for well over a year after opening and still left audiences crying for more. The show was part of the award winning cabaret series Under the Covers and was nominated for a 2005 MAC Award.
"Sarah Mucho's blistering performance was a theatrical revelation." -David Hurst, Show Business Weekly
Sarah's follow-up to Ziggy Stardust is something completely different and showcases Sarah's wide musical range and versatility as a performer. Subterranean Circus is a noir sci-fi, performance art piece that explores the current state of humanity through a variety of music, including songs by Tom Waits, Simon & Garfunkel, Bjork and the Kinks. It has been described as a futuristic cautionary tale, or "dark cabaret" but it really resists simple description. With the brilliant pianist Bobby Peaco on board and direction by Kristine Zbornik (Sarah's friend/mentor and a phenomenal performer as well) the show is rock solid and already generating buzz after only a few performances.
"I have never seen cabaret like this. Mucho is ballsy and different and magnificent. Subterranean Circus leaves you blinking into the house lights, wondering where the hell you've been for the last hour, and how soon you can go back." -Bisanne Misoud, Cabaret Exchange
"Don’t Tell Mama wisely chose Sarah Mucho's Subterranean Circus to launch its new cozy and inviting cabaret room...Mucho’s talent is obviously as diverse as her show." -Laurie Lawson, Electronic Link
Whether it's in the world of rock 'n' roll, in a piano bar belting out tunes over crowds or through original, theatrical performances, Sarah is always unusually creative, honest and inspiring. With a fresh, contemporary voice, Sarah is continuously gaining new fans who are anxious to see what she will do next.
