Sarah Mussi’s first novel, The Door of No Return is a mystery adventure about Zac and his pact with his grandfather who is obsessed with a Return to Africa plan and a lost ransom in gold belonging to his ancestors.
Zac wangles his way to Ghana, nearly drowns in a perilous journey along the coast and has to re-enter an old slaving fort by the notorious Door of No Return through which the slaves were loaded for their terrible journey across the ocean, never to return.
Yet, despite betrayal and skulduggery, Zac does change history and asks the British government some very tough questions.

This original, page-turning story is inspired by real events, and
the quality of Sarah Mussi's research is clear. It is an excellent idea for
a novel, filled with action, adventure, emotions, a well crafted plot and a
delicately handled theme regarding the roles of Britain and Ghana during
the slaving era. But this is no historical epic, this is a contemporary
adventure story, following Zac, a fresh and intelligent hero through a
range of complex feelings, a desire to find out the truth about his family,
whilst being pursued by sinister people intent on destroying his life, like
setting him up for crimes he has not committed.
The Door of No Return has been published in line with the British
bi-centenary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade and is packed with
authentic and accurate detail and a worthy, fascinating plot which will be
a rare treat to fans of action/adventure novels. The characters are
extremely well drawn and the language and plot it is very accessible,
having captured Zac's voice believably and brilliantly. The book expertly
combines a character led plot with ..agents/spying/chases/danger' etc.
