Sara Jane is a local singer / songwriter born and bred in Launceston. Always musical, Sara began singing and performing at a young age in styles from jazz, pop, rock, blues, soul, Latin, folk, classical, theatre styles among others!
Sara attended Newstead College after receiving a scholarship for music/performing arts. She then continued study in Queensland in 2003 studying a bachelor of jazz music majoring in voice. She was lucky enough to work, train and collaborate with some of the country’s best musicians as well as internationally accredited musicians. Some of these include best new jazz vocalist of the year (Montreal jazz festival)Kristen Beradi, Peter Walters, Michelle Nicole, Graeme Jesse, Wiley Reed, Lindsey Field and Lisa Edwards ( backing singers from John Farnham) Nichaud Fitzgibbon, Viv Middleton, Jim Kelly, David Adams, Daryn Farrugia, Wiley Reed, Michael Davidson and the Jazz Messengers (USA) Rick Holland (USA) plus many others. After graduating in 2006 Sara returned home to begin writing and collaborating for her EP, whilst keeping busy teaching voice and piano, and gigging at various venues with her original act as well as a covers duo “ Sara and Dave” and jazz band “the Bossafly effect”.
Last year she joined forces with Hamish Clark (HPRC productions) to begin recording her debut EP “Troubled Minds.” It was released on Wednesday 13th of August at Irish Murphy’s Launceston. Troubled Minds is a perplexing mix of jazz/ blues and pop sounds, funky reggae grooves, combined with folk infused lyrics.
Since her EP release Sara Jane has been working on her new material with her band. They have recently just recorded a demo which you can listen to on here (first 3 songs on page) Sara would love for you to go listen, rate and review her current demo tracks on Triple J unearthed (follow the link).
She has had much success this year with one of the tracks from her EP "You know" reaching 12 on the unearthed roots music charts! Her demo also saw her nominated for an Amplified award (run by Arts Tas and hosted by Steph Hughs from Triple) in which she won in her section, Best Contemporary Classical and or Jazz category. This has become a real turning point for Sara Jane with lots of recognition and gigs to watch out for in the next coming year. She is currently writing in preparation for recording her first debut Album which she hopes to release early next year, so keep an eye and ear out for it! You can also purchase a copy of the “Troubled Minds” EP from Mojo Music Launceston or by email.

Hey ♥ Sara Jane ♥, It's a Psychobilly freakout..... We're back for another BIG night of Psycho Rock'n'Roll at the Royal Oak, this time with our good friends from Melbourne 'Firebird'. We'd love it if you could get yourself along and go nuts.....!!!
Awwww thankee! I have finally gotten around to listening to the recitals of June 2008, which I was frightened to listen to because I thought they must have been dreadful. I had axed my back and spent a week in bed, and the recitals brought my honours mark way down to second class (sob) so I was all like, "Nuh uh, I ain't ever listening to those!" But hey, I finally sucked it up and did it and there are some nice moments! :) Anyway, thanks for listening, I love you! xx
