I'm a 21-year old singer who was born in Germany and lives in Munich. My roots are German and Puerto Rican/American. The music i do is mostly Reggae and Soul with a touch of R'n'B.
Growing up in a musical family, singing always played a very big role in my life. My mom used to sing a lot with me and my three brothers when we were kids. Very early I started making up harmonies and improvising melodies to all kinds a songs that I was listening to. Vocals were always the first sound-waves that caught my attention. I listened carefully and tried to imitate it perfectly and make it sound nice and round. I used to sing at church, birthdays and other occasions. At school I joined the choir for a couple of years.
My mom mostly listened to Classical and Spiritual music. My dad opened my ears for Rock and World music. And my brothers finally introduced Reggae to me. Quickly I fell in love with the one drop and couldn't stop listening to all kinds of artists like Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Culture, Israel Vibration, Barrington Levy and many,many others. My oldest brother Tom Lugo started his band Jamaram in 2000 what was my access to live music. Seeing my brother singing in in a band motivated me to get more active in what I loved so much. Sometimes he would take me to the rehaersal. And one day when we were on our way there I started writing my first lyrics. At age 16, my first studio session was to record backings for a local reggae band (Headcornerstone).
So it happened that Jamaram asked me to sing backings on their first album. At the album release concert my brother asked me on stage to sing "over the ocean" with them. I was so nervous I think no one in the audience was able to hear my voice. I started taking singing lessons to improve my singing. I took lessons for about a year and a half. More and more people were telling me they like my voice and so I thought to myself, maybe I should continue doing music and try to get better. I called up Jahcoustix, who I knew thru Tom, and asked him to help me write my first 'real' song. When "mother&child" was finished I went to the studio and recorded the song with Umberto Echo. He is Jamaram's sound engineer and homie nr.1. After that i was able to gain stage experience by doing little solo shows, singing and entertaining at the Sandwichmaker (big up!) and doing features with Jamaram, Jahcoustix, Ganjaman, Mellow Mark and other bands. So from the day I started doing music, writing, recording, performing.. I am very blessed to have friends around me that are great musicians and who have always helped and supported me. Now I do what I do best and love the most: I sing. Sometime soon we're gonna release my first EP. And in Autumn 09 we are planning to release my debut album which I am recording with Mr. Echo right now. Next to Umberto Echo I feel honored and am very thankful to work with artists like Jahcoustix, Oneness, Naptali, Ganjaman, Jamaram (of course!) -I will be going on tour with them guys in April- and many more. I got offers to work with people who play with artists like Alborosie and Jan Delay and i'm looking forward to getting more musical work done this year! .....Thanks for reading

Ich bin eine 21-jaehrige Saengerin aus der Naehe von Muenchen. Meine Wurzeln sind deutsch und puerto ricanisch/amerikanisch. Ich mache hauptsaechlich Reggae und Soul m it einem Hauch von R'n'B. Da ich in einer musikalischen Familie aufgewachsen bin, hat singen schon immer eine grosse Rolle in meinem Leben gespielt. Meine Mutter hat von klein auf viel mit meinen Bruedern und mir gesungen. In jungem Alter begann ich Melodien und Harmonien zu allen moeglichen Liedern zu improvisieren. Wenn ich Musik gehoert habe war es immer die Stimme die mir als erstes auffiel und meine ganze Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zog. Ich habe aufmerksam zugehoert und dann versucht das was ich gehoert habe perfekt nachzusingen und es dabei schoen und rund klingen zu lassen. Ich habe in der Kirche, auf Familienfesten, Geburtstagen und bei andern Anlaessen gesungen. In der Schule war ich im Chor. Meine Mutter hat meistens classische und christliche Musik gehoert. Mein Vater hat meine Ohren fuer Rock und Weltmusik geoeffnet. Und am Ende waren es meine Brueder die mir Reggae vorgestellt haben. Schnell habe ich mich in den OneDrop verliebt und konnte nicht aufhoeren Musik von Leuten und Bands wie Bob Marley, Burning Spear, Culture, Israel Vibration, Barrington Levy und vielen, vielen anderen Artists zu hoeren. Mein aeltester Bruder Tom Lugo hat in 2000 seine Band Jamaram gegruendet, was mir den Zutritt zu Live-Musik ermoeglicht hat. Meinen Bruder in einer Band singen zu sehen, hat mich sehr motiviert das zu tun was ich so liebe. Ich erinnere mich, manchmal durfte ich mit zu seinen Bandproben. Auf unserem Weg zu einer Probe habe ich meine ersten Zeilen niedergeschrieben. Mit 16 durfte ich dann zum ersten Mal im Studio Backings fuer eine lokale Reggaeband (Headcornerstone) aufnehmen. So kam es, dass Jamaram mich fragte ob ich nicht auch auf ihrem ersten Album Backings singen wollte. Beim Album-release Konzert riefen sie mich auf die Buehne um den Song "over the ocean" mit ihnen zu singen. Ich war so nervoes, dass glaub ich niemand im Saal mich gehoert hat. Anschliessend habe ich ein anhalb Jahre lang Gesangsunterricht genommen um mich besser muiskalisch ausdruecken zu koennen. Mehr und mehr Leute kamen zu mir und sagten mir,dass ihnen meine Stimme sehr gefiel und ich dachte mir, vielleicht sollte ich mir das zu Herzen nehmen und weiter und haerter arbeiten. Ich rief Jahcoustix an, den ich derzeit durch meinen Bruder kannte, und fragte ihn ob er mir nicht helfen koennte meinen ersten 'richtigen' Song zu schreiben. Als "Mother & child" fertig war bin ich ins Studio um ihn dort mit Umberto Echo aufzunehmen. Umberto Echo ist Jamarams Tontechniker und Homie Nr.1. Langsam habe ich Buehnenerfahrung gesammelt indem ich hier und da kleinere solo Shows gespielt habe, beim Sandwichmaker (big up!) habe ich gesungen und entertaint . Ausserdem hatte ich zahlreiche Gastauftritte mit Kuenstlern wie Jamaram, Jahcoustix, Ganjaman, Mellow Mark und vielen anderen. Von dem Tag an dem ich also angefangefangen habe ernster Musik zu machen, Texte zu schreiben, aufzunehmen.. hatte ich immer gute Freunde um mich herum die dabei auch noch spitzen Musiker sind und die mich immer unterstuetzt und supportet haben. Jetzt mache ich das war ich am besten mache und noch dazu am meisten liebe: Ich singe. Bald kommt meine erste EP raus und im Herbst 09 kommt dann mein Debut Album das ich gerade mit Mr. Echo aufnehme. Neben Umberto Echo fuehle ich mich geehrt und bin sehr dankbar mit Kuenstlern und Bands wie Jahcoustix, Oneness, Naptali, Ganjaman, naturlich Jamaram - im April geh ich mit den Jungs auf Tour- und vielen mehr zusammen arbeiten zu duerfen. Ich habe angeboten bekommen mit Musikern zusammen zu arbeiten die fuer Artists wie Alboosie und Jan Delay spielen und ich freue mich auf die Arbeit und alles was die Zukunft sonst noch bringt!

There is no end to the different ways that people look at life. People view existence in this world through very different sets of eyes. Even when people look at the same circumstances and situations, different people have totally different views. Let me use two examples as illustrations.
To some people, life stinks. No matter what the circumstances are or the situation is, they always see the stinky things. Trouble chases them like a vicious dog. Problems cling to them like ticks. Tragedy rains on them like hail stones. When something good happens, they cannot enjoy it. They spend their time wondering when the bad will come. If they win a million dollars, the taxes are horrible. When someone is kind to them, they wonder, "What is that person trying to do to me?" To them, life is horrible, so they look for the bad in every situation.
To some people, life is wonderful. Everything is wonderful! If trouble chases someone like an angry dog, that person irritated the dog. If problems cling to someone like ticks, that person walked among the ticks. If tragedy falls on someone like hail stones, that person chases tornadoes. Life is naturally good! Bad things do not happen unless you invite them into your life. They never look at life and see anything bad.
