Sara Lumholdt is best known for being a member of the “A*Teens”, a mega-successful pop music group from Stockholm, Sweden. They were first formed in 1998 as the “ABBA Teens” and later renamed to the “A*Teens”. The four Swedish-born members of this group - Sara, Marie, Dhani, & Amit - have sold over 8 million albums and 2 million singles worldwide. The “A*Teens” parted ways in late 2004 to pursue solo careers.
Since the “A*Teens” separated in 2004, Sara has been working here and there on a multitude of other projects. Among the most exciting: she recorded Swedish voice-overs for the Electronic Arts racing game “Burnout: Revenge”, and sang the Swedish National Anthem in 2006 and again in 2008 for the “World Cup Soccer Championship” at the prestigious ‘Ballbreaker Sports Club’.
Apart from working on new musical material, Sara has been back to ‘almost normal’ mode with some very interesting and educational jobs, among them a stint for one of the largest media companies in Sweden - “Bizkit”. Speaking in an interview, Sara said "I like trying different things. It’s fun to try other stuff in different industries". It seems that there’s not enough time in the day for this girl to learn or absorb enough new experiences!
In early 2007 Sara collaborated on a recording sponsored by major street fashion company “WeSC”. Sara’s version of "Let's Get Physical with WeSC", a cover of the 1980 Olivia Newton John hit, wasn't officially part of Sara's album or solo career but has been extremely well received in the online community and among Sara’s legions of worldwide fans.
Fast-forward to August of 2007. Sara released a club/dance single “Glamour Bitch”, under the stage name ‘Sara Love’. The track (featuring rapper Milano Money), blew up online literally over night. Sara surprised her fans by promoting the track at a series of shows called “NRJ in the Park”. The audience was packed at these shows, swelling to over 15,000 people in the major Swedish cities of Gothenburg and Malmö.
"Glamour Bitch" entered the Swedish music charts at 57 and immediately jumped to 48 the next week - without doing any promo whatsoever! It also landed on the ‘Most Played’ list on NRJ Radio. "Glamour Bitch" was also featured on a compilation CD “Absolute Dance - Move Your Body!” in Autumn of 2007.
In October, Sara appeared on the cover of Swedish magazine “Rodeo”. In the accompanying interview, Sara shed some light on her days as a teenager, dealing with among other things, an eating disorder not unlike that of other teenagers, and harsh criticism from other people jealous of her burgeoning musical career. The article was accompanied by a photo shoot of Sara inspired by front covers of classic albums from alt-rocker Patti Smith, legendary songstress Joni Mitchell, and Debbie Harry of “Blondie”.
In early December 2007, Sara gave an interview to Swedish journalist Vecko Revyn in which she talked about her upcoming new CD. Sara told Vecko that she was going to Los Angeles in February of 2008 for three months to record, write, and meet with producers and other songwriters. However, once in LA the trip took a different turn then what was initially planned. She didn’t feel that she had found the ‘real her’ in the music she was working on, so she decided to start working instead with friend and TV host Josh Skinner on some new songs. Sara knew she had much more to give of herself to the music and definitely to her fans.
So how can you explain her new sound? In Sara’s own words “….it’s a nice blend of pop/soul with meaningful lyrics about my life and my experiences. And also normal everyday stuff that we all go through in our lives”.
Sara and Josh then started working with producer Ted Perlman. Together the three of them wrote and recorded three fantastic new songs for Sara’s upcoming CD.
Sara will be returning to Los Angeles in the Fall of 2008 to finish the new CD and also to film a video for the first single. We are all confident the CD will hit stores and online all over the world and be a huge smash! Get ready for the new “Queen of Pop” - Sara Lumholdt!
