The Show: The Princess and the Please - Princess Suzy and the gang offer our audiences great lessons in manners and friendship. At her birth, a horrible spell was placed upon Princess Suzy, dooming her to be the most spoiled, ill-tempered princess in the land. The only person, of course, that can break the spell is Suzy herself - and TRUE LOVE. When seven princes in a row come to the palace from all over the world and run from her horrible disposition, King Henry knows something must be done. Will the eighth prince, Prince Rodney, be able to help Suzy break the spell?
Roles Available: Princess Suzy (ill-mannered princess), Nurse Noreen (her friend and caretaker), King Henry/Queen Mary (Suzy's parent, can be altered to fit either a male or female in the role), Prince Rodney/7 Princes (must be able to speak in Scottish, Brooklyn, Australian, French, Texan, British, and "Surfer" accents), Dory the Dinosaur (Dory's Stories mascot, helps the story move along, male or female)
Compensation: $20.00/performance.
Auditions: Saturday, June 6, 2:00-4:00pm
Rehearsals: Flexible. We are hoping for a cast of five and can work with all schedules.
Show Dates: July 10-August 1, 11:00am Saturdays, 4:30pm Fridays.
Directed by: Maryclaire Becan
To schedule an appointment, please email dory@soyt.org or call 210-481-2400.

The show, even in its silence, was heart-wrenching. From the very beginning, the music prelude by Regan Marie Brown and video slideshow by Chris Manley pulled you into the life of Marnie, played by Kristen Hinton. Even with minimalist props, the actors helped give a true understanding of everything that would have been in a hospital room, but wasn’t on the stage. During moments of silence there was still a profound and poignant depth to the show… the tight/ painful grip of the story was never lost.
While Internal Marnie, played by Monique Sleeper, was saying heartfelt, meaningful lines to husband, Brad, played by Jon A. Smith, External Marnie’s breathing was in sync and right on cue. It made you believe that Internal Marnie was really screaming those thoughts in her head.
The fading in and out between characters’ conversations and speaking was perfectly timed. The emotions shown by Katie, played by Bella and Bree Miracle, were amazingly honest for their ages. The Familiar Voice I Don’t Know, played by Deborah Basham-Burns, the Voice That Smells Like Pine Trees, played by Gary Poenish and Strawberry Voice, played by Ashley Pulido, made you truly feel as if you were really in a hospital. They showed true compassion toward Brad, Pam (played by Carle Meier) and Katie.
Dr. Chaney, played by Karen Garcia, was just stunning. I could only wish that the person taking care of my grandmother in assisted living could be as wonderful and caring as she was to Marnie and her family.
This truly was an inspiring piece where the heartfelt collaboration between Jessie Rose and Marjorie Brody palpated throughout the audience. The use of few to no props was inspiring… the actors back to the root of acting. It showed that you don’t need tons of expensive props to get the audience to understand and feel what the show is about.

There are tons of new things going on at THE ROSE, like the delightful entertainment from the Dawnview Crew Sketch Comedy Show. As I watched Episode 1 I was very pleased with everything from the opening to the introduction of the cast at the end. There were non-stop laughs from the entire audience.
Even when there was a 'snafu' when a four legged cast member made an unannounced entrance, the show went on.
All of the writers of the sketches are very skilled in what they do and the actors/actresses who helped to convey the intentions of the writers did an AWESOME job.
Kudos to all who participated in the DVC Sketch Comedy Show!!
