Hugh Campbell, working under the aliases Trance Authority and Habitual Noise is an electronic music composer and producer in South Africa.
Hugh’s musical career started in 1999 after discovering his natural ability to compose progressive Trance, Hardstyle and Trip-Hop arrangements. Although his music is ever changing, these genres still feature heavily in his work today.
Hugh's music is highly regarded and recognized within the Independent music community worldwide and is constantly growing in popularity amongst more diverse audiences.
In 2005, Hugh, claimed the 2nd place award for the MIO Annual remix competition, falling but 1 point behind the overall winner, Vaughan Phillips. The competition features some of the best electronic music producers from all across South Africa in varying skill levels ranging from bedroom producers, to highly recognized major artists.
In 2006, Hugh's work was featured on the popular Sound Republic podcasts, hosted by Derek “the bandit” Richardson – a well known South African Radio and Club DJ.
Hugh's work has been played on several shows since and has been featured on hundreds of podcasts and web radio shows worldwide.
Hugh has compiled 3 albums featuring his work for digital release. The most recent being:
The Comedown machine (2007). Work is underway for a 4th release of "What they want you to hear" under his other alias, Habitual Noise, later in 2007.
Hugh has engaged in several remix and performance collaborations with other independent and emerging artists namely; Christina Berry, Patrick Sweeny, Ryan Vickers, Vaughan Phillips (Syntrax), Nick Easler, Michelle Freeman, Fady Fyad (Psy Spirit), Alpha FX, Diverje, CDMP and many more.
Hugh also composes and produces music for Independent film and computer / console games.
