Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Sattanya Robinson, also known as Tanya, has been playing piano since the age of five and singing with her two sisters and mother since she could remember. She grew up in Mandeville, Manchester, where she was able to develop her talent as a pianist through classical music. Her mother was her piano teacher. At the age of 14, Sattanya migrated to Queens, New York where she learned to sing and play the American Gospel style of music. She also began writing songs at that age. Sattanya also plays the bass and acoustic guitar, drums, flute, trumpet, saxophone, and aspires to play many more instruments.
Although Sattanya had given her heart to the Lord at age 9, she committed her life totally to Him in June, 1990, and has walked with Christ non-stop until today. She was 15 years old.
In 1997, Sattanya graduated from Queens College with a BA in Spanish, but she began to teach at a private school in Brooklyn. Hence, her teaching career began. She taught ages 3 through 15 years music, Spanish, and assisted the daycare and fourth grade classes. After three years, she began to teach fourth grade at another private school in Brooklyn.
In 2001, Sattanya moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she resided for almost six years. She taught middle and high school Spanish, music, Bible, algebra, basic math, and other subjects at Covenant Christian Ministries Academy in Marietta, Georgia. She was also a member of the praise team and one of the keyboardists for the Covenant Christian Ministries Church. While in Georgia, Sattanya realized that she was not carrying out God's will for her life in terms of music. In 2005, Sattanya resigned her teaching position at CCMA and started her own business. It was her hope that by running a business her time would become flexible enough for her to focus more on singing and developing her playing skills. Unfortunately, her daycare and afterschool center did not take off as anticipated. Sattanya recognized that she stepped out of God's perfect will for her life. In January, 2006, Sattanya decided to go back to college to complete her masters degree in music education. Hence, her recent relocation back to New York. God has opened so many doors of opportunity for her that she is overwhelmed by His graciousness. Sattanya is the music director of the First Church of God in Jamaica, New York, and teaches private instrument and voice lessons. She has recently released her first single "Use Me" and is currently working on her single release, "No Way."
First of all, Sattanya thanks her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the doors of opportunity that He has opened up for her, and for His loving sacrifice for her on the cross. Sattanya would also like to thank her cousin Benton Reid for his influence on her life, and Kenton Reid for his inspiration to sing and play to God's glory at a higher level. She thanks Garnet for sacrificing his time to help her on this project, Rohan Adams for his help in the studio, her mother, Pastor Virginia Robinson, her sisters Bonnie and Terry-Ann, and all her aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and relatives that have helped her thus far. Sattanya wants everyone that knows Christ to pray with her as she carries out God's perfect will for her life. It is her mission to touch lives by ministering Christ's message, and to share her gifts and talents with all who might be blessed by them.
