Blues is secular folk music of American Blacks. From its origin in the South in the early 20th century, the Blues’ simple but expressive forms had become by the 1960s one of the most important influences on the development of popular music in the United States. ~~ Britannica Encyclopedia 2008
The Saturday Night Juke Joint was created out of a love for Black music, live entertainment, entertainers, and artistic expression. More importantly, the Juke Joint was established as a form of respect for and self-preservation of this aspect of African American culture.
Blues music was birthed from the souls of Black folk as a vehicle to express our trials, tribulations, and triumphs in life and love. Blues music demonstrates our resilience as a people as we present our stories (be they happy or sad) through song.
Sometimes called a ‘hole in the wall’, ‘the spot’, or the hangout’ – the Juke Joint offers an authentic Blues experience. The lights are low, the room is packed. The voices are loud and the laughter is booming. Drinks are plentiful and the scent of hot fish & chicken wafts enticingly pass the noses of the patrons. The mood is joyful, the people sensual. The Saturday Night Juke Joint is in full swing.
The stresses of the week are gone and the atmosphere conducive to healing the soul. No need for pretense, the feeling of need is shared by all. And everybody is there…Folks like Slick Rick, Easy Lucy, Needy Nellie, Slow Man Sam, and you.
Ladies & Gentlemen, we present to you “The Blues” - unadulterated, unabridged, and unapologetically the Blues…real Blues…our Blues! It’s loud, soulful, groovy, and funky, but most of all bluesy.
So, you have no choice but to involve yourself and become one with ‘what is’ at the Juke Joint. It’s a place where needs are met and fantasies fulfilled, if only for one night … at the Juke Joint. Welcome!
