Our band formed around mid-September 2003, in Batangas City. Originally there was Jerwin on guitars(Forgiveness Denied), Joel on bass, Nickson on Guitars, Felix on vocals (both from FD too)and Carlo on drums(Settled Down). We were just in the mood for some aggressive music which the scene then lacked there off, music inspired by personal encounters with hurt and despair, music with life and soul.
We recorded six of our originals in a Two-way split CD with Manila's By Storm on August 2004, and released it through Take-4 Records. Back then we sounded reminiscent of the old Converge/Curl-Up and Die style, so as they say. But there is not much comparisson though(because they sound way better that's why we love them), sometimes it makes us feel proud to be compared to such acts that we love to listen to. But just before we recorded the songs, Jerwin had to leave the band to go to the mid east. So we were a four-piece until we found Carlos, who was then playing for Love Conquers All. He had the personality and the passion so we decided he could lend a helping hand. So we're back to being five-piece again..
Sauna went back to the recording Studios on late 2005 to record five new originals. It was an independent release so we had to create the packaging ourselves. Musicallywise, we evolved to a more atmospheric feeling sound than before. And more passion was put on ink as we wrote even harsher lyrics still depicting the personal turmoils we've been through. And we could see how much people relate through the words when we sing it live..
Joel eventually left Sauna. The group decided that Carlos should take over the bass duties for the band because of some internal arguements about Joel's input and passion to what Sauna is taking shape into. .
We had to rush recording some materials for the next CD. We hit the recording studios again on June 2006 to track drums and bass for old and new songs. It's our last record with Carlos on bass because he left for Canada last July. Mikey from Trencher the Trauma will fill in for him and eventually replace him as bassist. .
Currently, we are finishing up recording and finalizing the layout for an ambitious full-length CD release, under Take-4 Record label. It's even deadlier than the latest CD. Harsher guitars and haunting vocals.. and new materials that will divide half of the listeners to those who get it..and those who don't. .
We've been trying to sing, strum, pummel, sweat and bleed our hearts out on and even off-stage since the day we came to be Sauna. And we will continue to do so until all the hurt, despair, longing and bitterness are exhausted from our hearts and lifted off our shoulders. And we will continue to do so for those who believe that no matter how time goes by, you'll never heal and never turn back how deep the wounds inside you have become. However, it can be a very useful weapon to get through and survive..
