Save-A-Dog is a non-profit, NO KILL humane society located in the Pocono Mountains of eastern Pennsylvania, established for the purpose of saving abused and abandoned dogs. We used to work with the SPCA in our area but they have since closed leaving our area with no shelter for the area's homeless animals! The Pocono Mountains are a tourist area and a hot spot for "drop-offs"--dogs left behind to starve when the owner leaves or abandons them on the roadside. Every dog rescued needs veterinary care and a whole lot of love but without a shelter our community is left to depend on local rescue groups that are filled to capacity and desperately short on funds.
Our saved dogs are currently in foster homes being cared for by loving and committed volunteers, who prepare them for adoption. Some dogs are considered "unadoptable" because of age or handicap. WE DO NOT HAVE A SHELTER. It is our goal to build/buy a sanctuary for them so they can live their lives safely and securely.

What happens to a dog when it is found along the roadside and there is NO local shelter available to take it in? The Poconos currently have no organized shelter that can take in strays or help find the owners of lost pets! Our local rescues are wonderful but they are short on space and funds. Save-A-Dog wants to build a shelter even bigger and better than the one we lost when the PSPCA pulled their support and left the Poconos but we need your support to make it possible. Do you know it costs over $100,000 a year just to run a typical facility? Do you know that local and state funding is next to zero when it comes to saving animals? Our area's homeless animals need us and we need you! Please consider donating to our cause. Give what you can--every dollar helps!

VOLUNTEER--We need volunteers from our area to help us with our fundraising events as we try to built an animal sanctuary for local homeless furry friends. We also need volunteers to FOSTER our dogs and other animals until they find forever homes. FOSTERING is one of the kindest, most wonderful things you can do to make a difference.

ADOPT--Adopting an animal in need seems like such a simple act but to these animals, it means the world. To a new owner, a shelter dog or cat is a new companion, someone to love and care for. To a shelter animal, a new owner is a savior, someone to teach them the meaning of family, of love, of hope. To these poor souls who have no one, a new owner is everything--a chance at a happy life, a home, a meal, a bed, a kind hand, and lots of love.
ADVOCATE--Animals can't speak for themselves! They need us to speak up for them! There are so many ways you can be an animal advocate. Support local and national bans on puppy mills. Learn about candidates' positions on animal issues and use your vote to make a difference. Boycott pet stores that sell puppies--Most of these dogs come from puppy mills where breeder dogs suffer horribly. Become more educated about animal issues that matter to you and SPREAD THE WORD!
