About me:
Dear Carpenters Fan:
I am writing to you about the impending demolition of the famous Downey, CA Newville Avenue residence of the Carpenters, immortalized on the cover of their multi-platinum 1973 LP "Now & Then." For those who don’t know me, I was national promotion director at their label, A&M Records, for many years.
Carpenters music continues to sell strongly, and come holiday time, is an annual radio staple. My brother David Konjoyan co-produced a Carpenters tribute album with Matt Wallace, "If I Were A Carpenter," the subject of a subplot in the recent movie hit "Juno." Thanks to the internet, new generations are being introduced to the music and legacy of the sibling duo every day. Tourists continue to visit Downey to see the house.
Part of the house ("the addition") has already been razed. According to a reliable source, the main house is next. While it would be unfortunate to lose the house, we respect the rights of the current owners. This is their house, purchased from Richard Carpenter.
Our goal is to draw attention to this Grammy winning musical duo as the 40th Anniversary of their signing to A&M approaches, to educate the public to cultural/historic preservation, and to encourage the Downey City Council to enact a preservation ordinance.

LOS ANGELES TIMES REPORTS ON THE HOUSE...
LOS ANGELES TIMES front page story Feb. 16 of this year ("Fans love Carpenters, not carpenters") was quickly picked up by the AP, BBC, NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY etc. and went worldwide. Here is a link:

NOTE: Karen would have been 57 at the time of the piece, so I guess the reporter, Bob Pool, got confused (?) and wrote that I am 57! (Not yet anyway!!!)
