About me:
This page will no longer be updated. Please see my final blog above.
Who We Are:
We are a group of concerned fans who feel that while Mr. Dan
Gilbert
and his organization have all the best intentions with their new AHL
minor league hockey
franchise, they are sorely out of line with their new pricing structure
and totally out of touch with who the true market in Cleveland is.
Glass seats
have gone from $25 to $60, $9 seats have increased to $35 and $20. We
don't see the justification for this more than double increase. 90% of
seats are now $60-$20. That is quite a bit more than even the high
end of the AHL average. To top it off, the
cheapest seats are now in a small section in the sides of the upper
bowl!
Even in
a major league city, minor league hockey can be successful, but only if
priced appropriately. With so many other options, it needs to be the
"low cost
sports alternative" for the city. Regardless of marketing and
advertisement, without
average prices that will attract average fans, the future of hockey in
Cleveland will be very short. In "America's
Poorest Big City", you have to work with the market you have. It
doesn't matter how much of a good time you show them.. if they can't
regularly
afford the entertainment.. they aren't going to be repeat customers.
Without repeat customers you can't
build any kind of loyal fanbase. In the end, the fanbase is key!
Without that, we are back to where we always seem to be with
hockey in Cleveland. Very unfortunate indeed.
This isn't complaining about prices or being to cheap.. this is about
caring about the future of hockey in this city. Let's be honest.
Without appealing to the masses... nothing can take off. Without
affordable prices, no reliable fanbase can be built. If this team
doesn't make it... it's going to be a long.. long time before hockey
ever tries to come back to this city. So, you can be quiet and buy your
tickets and pay more and be happy and watch hockey.. but how long are
you going to have that hockey in the long run? Are you willing to risk
the future to satisfy your immediate needs, or will you make your voice
heard and show your support for not just the sport but for the city as
a whole? To guarantee hockey is around this city for a long time to
come and something we can be proud of. Not just through marketing,
advertising and branding... but through pride and loyalty to this city.
By making this sport affordable to all... not charging "premium" prices
totally out of line with the rest of the league.
If you agree with our cause, show your support and let those who matter
know how how we
feel and check out the email addresses and links in the next section.
You can use these links to view the new, increased
prices and a
comparison of last season's prices: Current
Pricing and Old
Pricing.
- (Update: Pricing is now listed on the Lake Erie Monsters
website at this link, along with names and email
addresses of ticket reps. We would suggest that along with writing the
names below, you also let these reps know how you feel about their
pricing and your concern about the future of hockey in the city of
Cleveland.)
Be sure to check out my blog above too! Some very good info.
Our
Goal:
Our ultimate goal is to convince Mr. Gilbert and his management to
rethink who their true market is. The fanbase in Cleveland is currently
lacking. Virtually non-existent really. This isn't like the heydays of
the old Barons.. or even the Lumberjacks. With the failures of the past
2 franchises, we need to build
it back up. With this pricing, it will not happen.
It comes down to this: Do they just want to recoup the cost of their
purchase as quickly as they can by outrageously raising the prices.. or
are they truly committed to hockey and want to ensure the future of a
successful franchise for a long time to come and make it economical for
everyone?
That is our challenge to Mr. Gilbert, plain and simple.
