sadly, our newcastle is often not a safe Newcastle, I heard Fannys is
in the top ten most violent clubs in NSW, there has not been a single time i have never hit the town without seeing some serious biff, people piss wherever the fuck they can ('im not excluded of this'), Newcastle is the ICE CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA, there are plenty of drugs. are we still proud of our newcastle? FUCK YES WE FUCKEN ARE!
Our beaches are stunning with WORLD CLASS surf, The beautiful architecture of our buildings, our sweet weather (when its not flooding :S) , our parks, our restaraunts, huge scene of arts and culture to our job and education opportunities, we have so many beautiful people here, inside and out! With all this 2 be proud of we still live in a city with so much potential get even better, to grow expand and thrive!
i really dont know what to think about the whole curfew thing, all i can do is hope that our city is in capable hands.

THESE SO CALLED... LIMIT TO 4 DRINKS

I order A GLASS OF WATER, A GLASS OF COKE, 2 JD AND COKES, 2 SMIRNOFF REDS!

Denied the sale of COKE AND WATER and told to come back in 15 minutes? 4 PHYSICAL DRINKS REGARDLESS OF ALCOHOL CONTENT?

instead they went and got there own, but pointless non the less!

THIS CURFEW, has a good agenda...but the means of achieving it... totally blow!

trent- at 7pm its daylight still, its very weird to go to a night club when its day light.

people go out at 11 cause thats the time they are ready. i dont know about you but i dont even have dinner untill around 8.30. so the time you finish work, stuff about doing jobs, relax, eat, get ready, go to your mates place, have a chat its 11pm already and thats when you go out.

society has changed a lot since our parents and other oldies were young. we are now a 24 hour society, fuel stations, supermarkets convience stores are open 24 hours. dinner time is not 5.30 for most

closing everything at 3am and putting all the people onto the streets at the same time is not the solution. it was already hard enough for people to get home when the closing times were all different.
i also think people do need to start using the public transport a bit more however i understand most peoples desire for a quick direct and easy taxi ride home... but theres just not enough taxis, and the problem just got a whole lot worse.

i also think its a shame that the large number of people that came here from the central coast and sydney wont bother to come up and party with us anymore... theres no point anymore with things closing so early.

its a sad time for hospitality and newcastle in general

Hi all,
I dont want to sound like a party pooper, but i do not think the curfew is such a bad idea at all if you think about it.
We are still going to be out in town for the same amount of time, which would be heaps better, it means i can get to bed at the latest 3am, which doesnt kill my sunday. i can wake up at 10am instead of 2pm and do something fun like go for a waterskii.
Also whenever you talk to the older generations they will happily tell you they had loads of fun in town when they were young, but that getting home at 12am-1am was a really late night out for them, but that they were still spending the same amount of time in town (getting there at 5pm to 7pm) as us.
And restricting the amount/types of alcohol we can have isnt such a bad thing, you dont need to be wasted to have a good time out. though i must say i miss my jaeger bombs :( so tasty
The only people who are affected by this are binge drinkers or people in groups of 5 who now can only buy 4 drinks at a time which screws up the shouting a little. but meh.

Just really think about the changes, are they really that bad?? Me im looking forward to a 7pm town start rather than 10 or 11pm!

The Battle is over, but the War is not lost! We will not stop till we fight for our right to party!

Instead of causing trouble, how about everyone from every club, cut the bullshit, leave the club... lets walk the streets of newcastle, in large numbers! make some noise!

to the guy called mitch below, no offence, but thats a lame excuse to be one of the derros that are the reason behind the damn curfews. whats that saying? if u cant beat em join em.. thats all you are doing.
sure protest all you want, but causing damage to property, to individuals.. wont be any solution. might get u in the paper though!

well i guess now that its happening there is not much we can do but prove how wrong they have got it.

this weekend i say to newcastle, go out, at 3am when where kicked out nobody go home, instead build a huge street party and cause as much possible trouble as possible.

to be honest, i dont think that will be hard, even the very best behavoured party go'ers are not gona be happy with 3am evictions
Why so serious??

hi
yes its true a majority of people can go out and party and enjoy themselves without trouble but its also true that a heck of a lot cant.

so what do we do??

i raced cars a few years back and i know that a majority of people can drive well enough to safely exceed the speed limit by a lot and that some people should be restricted
to walking pace or even just walking. speed limits strike a happy medium, not one i personally like but one that seems to work well for most.

so how does this apply to drinking??

some people can handle a lot of it and some just shouldn't drink so as with speed limits we need to find a solution that will create an environment where whilst we wont all be happy it generally works for most people. i personally have given official warnings to 2 employees at my other job for turning up for a morning shift in no safe state for work after a big late night out, one just today had been drinking until 5am and had not been to sleep there actions not only put them at risk but other employees.

so what about the business owners and there employees in the inner city that come to work of a morning to find a door step full of urine vomit or faeces you may laugh but the amount of people i see taking a urinating or dump in someones doorway is sickening.

so why go out at midnight?? i know its your choice to do it but why?? most of the pubs are open all day!!go out when they are open at a civilised hour. go home get some sleep you will function in life so much better its the way your body was designed to work. people function so much better with sleep

im not a wouser i work in hosptality and i enjoy a drink but i believe that the city and you would be much better off with earlier nights . it wont stop all the problems i know that some scumbags simply go out to cause problems, but it will make a big difference.

incidends after 3am dramaticly decreased when the curfew came in but the problems in town still as i have always said start around 1am and from then untill 3 our great city is little more than a zoo with the poor cops as overrun zoo keepers.

common sense and earlier closing now !!

i drink and i vote!

and i see what happens out there through sober eyes

Feb 19 2008 2:10 AM

closing clubs early and enforcing a curfews is wrong!!!

its like taking away everyones rights over one persons mistake..?

example.. mr.smith you were caught speeding through newcastle, so because you cant be trusted, no one is aloud to drive in newcastle...

its the same thing just a diferent scenario...

correct me if im wrong!

Feb 18 2008 10:28 PM

what happened to freedom of choice? how can people expect to have the power of how much we drink at a given time whilst in a pub, they are trying to regulate our fun to be in control of actions, if approved things will get worse rather than better...

Feb 17 2008 9:36 PM

I know 100 people who'll join any petition against this bullshit! We can't go silent on this. THe CBD is the CBD & if family's & older people are moving there, the night life has been established long before people moved into the area.If you don't like it move, & don't go there in the first place.
oh shit, ellie may.™

Feb 18 2008 2:06 AM

"Got It!!!" makes a damn good point.
The public transport here is an absolute joke.
And if these new restrictions are put in place there will be even more people standing outside and walking the streets acting like drunk morons.

Save Newcastle. :(

Feb 6 2008 12:37 AM

THEY just need more ways to get people home!
MORE taxis
MORE bus routes
MORE hire cars
this is why half the fights, graffiti, destruction that does occur, happens! Too many people are standing around WAITING.
If THEY made it alot easier for people to get home................ who knows what might happen.......... hmmmmmmm maybe less people standing, waiting, getting pissed off 'cos the taxi/car they ordered or was waiting for never turned up!

Yehh mates, their only gunna make more drama on the streets with this lock out!! I mean you leave 1 place walk ya ass ALL the way to the next place boppin ONLY 2 be told Ya not allowed in (thats gay)!
nicki

Feb 5 2008 7:45 PM

do you think that it crossed their minds that by doing this lockout and cerfew thing people will just find some where else to party. who knows... oh maybe a house party? then that will increase the problems of loud house parties, which can turn violent and could cause more problems.
