About the Avon Foundation and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
The Avon Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, was founded in 1955 to improve the lives of women and their families, and Avon philanthropic programs worldwide have raised and awarded more than $500 million. Now past the half century milestone, the Avon Foundation brings this mission to life through two key areas: breast cancer and domestic violence. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade launched in 1992, and Avon breast cancer programs in some 50 countries support advancing access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer, with a focus on the medically underserved. Funding is awarded to beneficiaries ranging from leading cancer centers to community-based breast health programs for awareness and education; screening and diagnosis; access to treatment; support services; and scientific research. Fundraising is through a variety of “pink ribbon” products, events, races and walks. The largest is the U.S. Avon Walk for Breast Cancer series, which began in 2003. For more information on the Avon Foundation visit http://www.avonfoundation.org/.
Breast Cancer - Having breast cancer means that some cells in your breast are growing abnormally. These cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells and may spread through your breast and into other parts of your body.
A breast exam by a trained medical professional should be part of your regular medical checkup.
Cyst - A cyst is a fluid-filled sac that feels like a soft lump or tender spot. Its found most often in women ages 30-50. A cyst is typically not cancerous.
Exercise - Build exercise into your daily routine. Exercise reduces estrogen levels, and boosts immune system cells that attack tumors.
Mammogram - A mammogram is an X-ray picture of the breast. A mammogram can find many cancers before they can be felt.
Many breast cancer survivors find that their lives and relationships become deeper and more meaningful. Many also have a renewed sense of celebration and enjoyment.
About 216,000 new cases in women and 1,500 in men are projected this year in the US.
About 3,600 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in Wisconsin this year.
Men get breast cancer too. The most common symptoms include a lump in the breast or a nipple abnormality.
Even though Caucasion women have a higher-rate of developing breast cancer, African-American women are more likely to die from the disease. Factors include barriors to healthcare, genetic differences in tumors and later stage of disease at diagnosis.

Give yourself an Exam...
Step 1: Begin by looking at your breasts in the mirror with your shoulders straight and your arms on your hips.
Here's what you should look for:
breasts that are their usual size, shape, and color
breasts that are evenly shaped without visible distortion or swelling
If you see any of the following changes, bring them to your doctor's attention:
dimpling, puckering, or bulging of the skin
a nipple that has changed position or an inverted nipple (pushed inward instead of sticking out)
redness, soreness, rash, or swelling
Step 2: Now, raise your arms and look for the same changes.
Step 3: While you're at the mirror, gently squeeze each nipple between your finger and thumb and check for nipple discharge (this could be a milky or yellow fluid or blood).
Step 4: Next, feel your breasts while lying down, using your right hand to feel your left breast and then your left hand to feel your right breast. Use a firm, smooth touch with the first few fingers of your hand, keeping the fingers flat and together.
Cover the entire breast from top to bottom, side to side—from your collarbone to the top of your abdomen, and from your armpit to your cleavage.
Follow a pattern to be sure that you cover the whole breast. You can begin at the nipple, moving in larger and larger circles until you reach the outer edge of the breast. You can also move your fingers up and down vertically, in rows, as if you were mowing a lawn. Be sure to feel all the breast tissue: just beneath your skin with a soft touch and down deeper with a firmer touch. Begin examining each area with a very soft touch, and then increase pressure so that you can feel the deeper tissue, down to your ribcage.
Step 5: Finally, feel your breasts while you are standing or sitting. Many women find that the easiest way to feel their breasts is when their skin is wet and slippery, so they like to do this step in the shower. Cover your entire breast, using the same hand movements described in Step 4.
About me: Myspace Countdowns at WishAFriend.com
In 2005 I took a challange to do something I didn't think was possible for me. I took the chance anyway, and I finished with great success.
This year I have decided to do again. On September 13th and 14th I am going to walk in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Long Beach California. It will be a long 39 mile streach along the coast line. These steps are painful after some time, but nothing compaired to pain that so many people indure during there fight with breast cancer.
I will be doing this to help raise the awarness of the a very deadly killer that is still so very much present today as it was years ago.
Breast Cancer kills another person every 3 minutes.
My grandmother died on April 4th 2008 of breast cancer. She fought hard for 20 years, and she lost her battle.
Breast Cancer touches many differant people from many differnt places. Your mom, your sister, your daughter, your aunt, your wife, your girl friend, your friend and even you. I hope that through this web site I can direct you to my official Avon Walk for Breast Cancer site to donate to the cause. Feel free to forward my page to your friends and family. The more my site is known the more it can help me raise my goal of $2000.00.
If you would like to donate to my Avon Breast Cancer cause you can. Just send me a message letting me know you want to donate and I will send you a message on instructions on how to do so.

Christina Applegate was diagnosed with the Breast Cancer jean and found cancer in her breast and did the bravest thing any women with breast cancer can do. She had a double masectomy. I hope that she remains cancer free and wish her the best. Your courage is greatly admired.

Hey okay so I talked to Nick and he said that Saturday sounds like fun. So are we just going to meet there? It would probably be best. As far as the t-shirts I think we should go ahead and get 12. Call me tomorrow. Love you....bye
