Saviours of Space have been making music together for two years. In March 2007, they released their debut single, I Want It. Hot Press thought they were good and duly noted them in their magazine. In this period of the band’s life, they also won the National Student Music Awards, with a unanimous vote from all twelve music industry professionals who were adjudicating.
Of late, the band have taken a somewhat different approach to songwriting, swapping angular guitar lines for a more considered, orchestrated sound that focuses on intricate arrangements with a great emphasis placed on production. It is a sound that is influenced both by the honesty and melodic prowess of older acts like The Beatles and the innovation of more recent acts like Mercury Rev and Grizzly Bear.
The band have spent the past few months recording what is to become their debut album. This is an effort which they have undertaken by themselves, giving them the experimental freedom they need to capture a unique approach to songwriting and production.
We're hosting 10 competitivelive music events over the summer and the best act from each event will go forward to play it out at the ‘LA or Busk’ Finals in Dublin. The overall winner will get a trip to Los Angeles to play a showcase event in front of music professionals!
How to enter 1. Collect 25 mastheads (that’s the title banner on the front page of the Sunday World). 2. Set up your band/artist profile on www. blastspace. com – you must write a band biography, including names, location, what instruments members play and a brief history. You must also upload at least 1 original music track (MP3) and two good quality band photographs. 3. Add ‘LA or Busk’ profile as a friend. 4. Send your 25 Sunday World mastheads along with the Sunday World application form to: LA or Busk Competition, Blastbeat Ltd, 7-8 Mount Street Crescent, Dublin 2, Ireland. Our panel of experts will then choose the best 8 bands for each event, and inform them of the event they have been chosen for. Please note that the panel’s decision is final.
There are both all ages and over 18s events and there are dates in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Belfast, Derry and Limerick so log onto www. blastspace. com/laorbusk for more details!
