| About Sax Ecosse |
|
Since its formation in the summer of 2004 Sax-Ecosse has enjoyed considerable success as a chamber ensemble. They are currently establishing an exciting and varied portfolio of performance end education based work throughout Scotland and the UK. They regularly perform as members of the Live Music Now! scheme, founded by Yehudi Menhuin, and recently took an inovative programme of works by Scottish composers to the 14th World Saxophone Congress in Slovenia and to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
In 2005 they won the prestigious Governor’s Recital Prize for Chamber Music and the Mary D Adams Prize for Chamber Music at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. The quartet were also finalists in Saxtet Publication’s Saxophone Quartet Competition which involved performing at British Saxophone Congress.
Sax-Ecosse were recently showcased as one of the new emerging British Saxophone Quartets in the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain’s Concert Series at the Reid Hall, during Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The quartet also recently gave recitals, involving premiers of new works, at Glasgow's West End Festival and the Academy Now! Concert Series at RSAMD. Other previous engagements include Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Tramway Theatre, The Usher Hall, Perth Chamber Music Society and the Carrbridge Live Festival.
With generous assistance from The Musicians’ Benevolent Fund and The Cross Trust, Sax-Ecosse have been able to travel to Germany to study with members of the internationally acclaimed Rasher Saxophone Quartet.
Sax-Ecosse members are all graduates of RSAMD who enjoy a diverse and varied career outside the quartet including orchestral work with Royal Scottish National Orchestra, New Telford Symphony Orchestra, National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain, instrumental teaching in local schools and music trusts, and outreach music projects such as Feis Nan Gaidheal and Drake Scotland.
