sayWHAT? is a young Rock & Blues band operating out of Chester, CT. Guitarists/vocalists & songwriters Ryan Newman and Ian Meadows began jamming on some Hendrix tunes in May 2007 in Ryan's garage which has been transformed into a cool space & studio. They, along with Ian's brother and drummer/vocalist & songwriter Dustin Meadows were invited to perform at the RiverDog Music Festival in Chester, CT, in August of '07. Needing a name, the members sat down for discussion, and after much thought, sayWHAT? was born. Since then, the band, with Ian as its' "senior" member at 15, at the helm, along with brother Dustin, 13, Justus, 15, & Ryan at the ripe old age of 12, are nearing their 25th show; playing at festivals, fairs, contests, charity benefits, and local events; and has amassed a collection of covers featuring songs by Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Cream, The Beatles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Who, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more. sayWhat? has an array of acoustic tunes, as well, playing an all acoustic show featuring classics such as "Blowin' in the Wind", "Layla", "The House of the Rising Sun" and several other acoustic originals. Most of the time they will slip one or two of these softer pieces into their set. However, most of the recent buzz around the band has been their increasing number of amazing originals.... To the upbeat rock roar of "The Journey", the driving, chugging power chords of "This Train", the heavy blues of "Are We Down?", these originals are beginning to gain more and more attention. The band's catalog of originals and their focus on writing songs with profound thoughts & meaning behind the lyrics, continues to grow along with the band who are wise, well beyond their years..... From the one it started out with to almost ten original songs, the band will be recording a short CD with the phenomenal Eric Lichter at Dirt Floor Studios in Chester, CT in September of '08. Peace to y'all.
