About me: FIRST CONCERT EVER was DOA, Pointed Sticks, and Dishrags at Simon Fraser University, 6 Oct. 1978. I had just turned 14.
My old FANZINE was called Skitzoid. First issue April 1979, last issue March 1980. Based on Vancouver's first fanzine, SnotRag. Skitzoid was succeeded by Len Morgan's fanzine Idle Thoughts (which did a way better job than I ever could!), RIP Len!
BANDS I INTERVIEWED for Skitzoid 1979-80: No Fun, Female Hands, Rabid, the Dils, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, and Subhumans.
BANDS I'VE BEEN IN over the years:
The BINGO CHICKEES. My first band, basically a joke. Opened for Subhumans & Dishrags @ Smilin' Buddha Feb. 1980.
CONTRABAND. Richmond's first & finest hardcore band. We opened for DOA, Discharge, Personality Crisis, among others, around 1982-83.
The HIP TYPE. Fronted by gorgeous Tracy Brooks, specializing in trash garage sleaze punk'n'roll. Released one 7inch single, thanks to Garnet Harry, and two cassettes. Several shows at the Railway, Savoy, Arts Club Lounge, Town Pump, Harpo's, etc. Opened for Meat Puppets, Green River, Brilliant Orange, Go Four 3, Short Dogs Grow, among others, around 1985-87.
TIN GOD. Fronted by Doug Andrew & Mike Graham, so it was basically post-Shanghai Dog with a different rhythm section and different songs. Released two cassettes. Opened for Sons Of Freedom, Death Sentence, Curious George, Wolfgang Press, among others. Played Arts Club Lounge, Town Pump, Commodore, Harpo's, etc. around 1987-88.
INFRADIG. Fronted by two rock & roll sirens from Norway and Finland with backup from local all-star combo. Released homemade CD EP. Played parties mostly, around 2000/2001.
OTHER BANDS I was in, either very briefly, or as one-off's: No Exit; an early version of Mad Dog's Slaughter Squad, Physical Spaghetti (Led Zep tribute), Playdoh Republic, and the Junk Poets.
RECORD STORES I WORKED AT: Track Records on Seymour Street, and Rhythm Zone on Pender Street.
Live footage of early Vancouver punk badboys The Rabid, my first serious band. Chuck Biscuits on drums. Footage by Lenora. Cheers Lenora. Get other cool, early Vancouver punk/alt footage from Lenora. Contact her at : http://www . myspace.com/doreengrey
