About me:

I'm a professor at a small university in PA, but have been a West Virginian my entire life. ..I just traded one set of mountains for another, but regardless, I'm an Appalachian to the core. Committed to social justice concerns in the region, I am involved in the campaign against Mountaintop Removal Mining (MTR), as well as other issues affecting the people of the region. I feel it is important to preserve the region's culture, including its music. However, I like all types of music, especially alt country, rock 'n roll, blues, etc. I also feel strongly about media images of my former home state/region as well as other media concerns. Closely linked to that is my interest in politics. I can't wait until Bush is out of office. Obama Rocks!

    Greetings fine feathered friend,

It's all about people who keep backyard hens in the city.

I read the coolest story about Obama the other day. Bill Richardson said that during one of the debates, he was busy chatting with Barack and didn't hear the question. All he heard was, "What would you have done differently?" or something like that. He was like a deer in the headlights. Instead of enjoying his competition flap in the breeze, Obama put his hand over his mouth and whispered, "KATRINA." Bill slid right into his Four Point Plan, and no one was the wiser. He then turned to Barack and said, "Thanks. You're okay."

Barack simply replied, "Nothing to it, brother."

    haha

Now THAT is a man with integrity and definite coolness to boot.

I'm proud to be an American again. ; )

Cool that you added Michael Martin to your friend list. He is directing me in a one man show called "Nocturne," that opens on Jan. 16th (my birthday) at the Voodoo Mystere.

WOW! I was sooo afraid that they were gonna pull something and rig this, but it turned out to be a huge sigh of relief felt across the world. I have NEVER been inspired by an election before. I'm a Clinton fan, but I wasn't ever moved like this. I just PRAY that some whack job doesn't assassinate him. I don't think we could ever recover from something like that. But now we just have to keep after them all, stay involved, and make keep the dream alive.

Thanks for all you did to make this happen.

Hey Sharon, Have fun with all the fall doings! The only thing I have up for SOCM is the myspace page for our local chapter- http://www. myspace. com/socm_cumb_co_chapter

They do have a website for the whole state
    http://www. socm. org

I hadn't heard of the Appalachian Studies Assoc. - will have to check them out.
    Thanks!

We are headed up your direction next weekend I think, to visit my oldest brother.
Not close enough to see the mill but will be soaking in some of that glorious scenery!
    Take Care!

I am on limited access, so I'll get back to you about the last email. I'm sure I will agree, though. There was a great political cartoon today in the DomPost. It had this huge musclebound guy with a confederate belt buckle, a big gun on his hip, a KILL THE MEDIA tshirt and some religious tattoo on his arm, at a McCain rally. This huge menacing character turns to the guy behind him and sheepishly says, "Obama scares me." ha,ha If it wasn't so sad and pathetic, it would be more humorous. McCain: From Maverick to Gelding.

I'm almost GIDDY anticipating tonight's debate. I wish that gender wasn't an issue, 'cause otherwise this would be a beautiful, justifiable massacre.

  • Sep 30 2008 2:27 AM

I do the myspace page for our local chapter only. SOCM is statewide and has several chapters - I'll have to check to see who is in charge of the actual website and message you the contact info.

Hope you're getting to enjoy some pretty fall color up there. It is just beginning to change here - got some good early fall pics this weekend. Hope to post some in the next few days.

    Take Care, Vicki

Sharon, Thanks for the beautiful pic!!!!! Hey, I think we are going to be good friends! My Dad was a member of SPOOM back in the eighties - he was an artist who loved old mills - did limited edition pen and ink prints of 17 different grist mills before he passed away.

Glad you liked the graphic, sorry for the download trouble. I need to slow down on creating or may have to switch some things out which would be a hard decision.
