Born from the imaginations of best friends Aleksandra Weil and Eloise Govedare, Scarlet Room takes its audience on a colorful ride through a world resembling golden-age Broadway and vaudevillian cheekiness, while spontaneously combusting with heavy rock. Though both were raised performing classical piano and watching musicals, Aleksandra and Eloise were drawn to the athleticism and freedom of rock and roll. After meeting in a high school math class at 15, the girls became inseparable songwriting partners; Eloise writing lyrics and playing drums, while Aleksandra brought melody to the words with accompaniment on her piano.
The seeds of Scarlet Room were planted when Aleksandra and Eloise met in high school. Both classically trained pianists, Eloise eventually took to the drums while Aleksandra brought her voice to the microphone. After a few years of writing music together, the girls were joined by bassist/guitar player Kris Darr and guitar player Michael Muir, and the Scarlet Room sound became complete.
Since high school, Aleksandra and Eloise have grown into mature songwriters, with music that fearlessly exposes a dark, yet always comical, look at issues of love, death, success, and failure; each song a story, like a number from an ever unfolding musical.
Just recently, as the girls prepare to release their first full length, they expanded their musical unit to include two boys, Michael Muir and Kris Darr, who bring guitar, bass, and distortion to the ensemble.
Despite Scarlet Room's recent appearance on the Seattle music scene, they have been able to sell out a show at the Triple Door with Portland favorite Vagabond Opera in July 2009, and again in November 2009. They have also played the Moore Theatre as part of the inaugural Seattle International Cabaret Festival, also featuring The Tiger Lillies, Circus Contraption, The Bad Things, Zoe Vermillion, Kitten on the Keys, and many more!
