As flattered as they are by fan comparisons, including "The Black Sabbath of Country" and “The Iron Maiden of Southern Rock", members of Scattergun prefer to describe their music with the straightforward label Alt-Southern. With a heavy nod of acknowledgement to Southern rockers like Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, and Molly Hatchet and newer alt-country bands such as the Drive-By Truckers, the music remains Scattergun's own cocktail of riff-heavy songs filled with dueling guitars and harmony leads over a solid thud of low end. The stories told by Scattergun are sincere personal accounts about the bittersweet nature of life. They are invitations to "get in the truck and come along”, to, join them for a beer at the lake, and make the songs your own. Setting all classifications aside, those who have seen their music and live show agree that Scattergun is a good time waiting to happen.
