“I’ll take a chance, I’ll be alright, it’s all I’ve got to go on”.
-Sunsets & Sketches, 'Scene At The Movies'
A chance was all that was needed for Scene At The Movies. What started out as casual, guitar jamming sessions soon became a passion for brothers, Rohan and Dharen together with their friend, David. Formerly known as Keepers Arms, the three decided to take their love for music a step further. Armed with instruments and untapped talent, they began their musical journey with rough recordings using nothing but an old radio and a computer. The result? Acoustic Tone – a raw, acoustic compilation released in 2003 which saw an impressive sale of a little over 250 copies. The CD proved to be a successful catalyst for the band and were featured in local music mag, Tone.
Further-study commitments saw the three relocating from Malaysia to Melbourne at different points in time, and the band took a backseat. While studies took priority, this didn’t stop them from venturing into more ‘professional’ recording territories venturing over at 21:05 Productions.
Brimming with the accumulated influences of bands like Taking Back Sunday and The Starting Line, the band's journey of sound has taken them down a similar path with its reflective lyrics, steady riffage, anchored drum beat, and whimsical background keyboard accompaniment.
Scene At The Movies has seen much growth and maturity over the years. As friends, they have withstood the powerful test of time, and as a band, they have evolved into a distinctive, eclectic organization of sound. Their soon to be released EP aims to convey a rich blend of powerful guitars with strong vocal melodies – tunes that frame defining moments where one can simply connect and identify, like a quintessential, awe-inspiring scene at the movies.
Scene At The Movies is set on creating a name for themselves not only in Australia, but also within Malaysia. The band has been hard at work, developing their sound in Melbourne and as they return home to Malaysia, look forward to early 2008 EP release.
