SceneShop is a showcase for short dramatic works - scenes, monologues, excerpts from larger works- written by local and regional writers. Since 1996, the 'Shop has presented over 80 new works, performed by a core of regulars and featuring guest turns by some of the area's most gifted performers. With a focus on simple staging and casual ambience, SceneShop has earned consistently positive reviews and a loyal following. Each edition promises a variety of works - comic, serious, thoughtful, sometimes silly- that comprises a memorable, intimate evening of theatre. In the summer of 2006, we offered a celebratory program titled "ten candles," featuring some of the best and most popular works from our first decade. Opening night offered a champagne reception and the box office proceeds went to the youth scholarship fund for a diverse range of classes at Arts Fifth Avenue. Now, we're working on the second decade. SceneShop is always interested in new writers and performers. Please contact us about acting with us, or submitting short scenes and monologues.

About me:

Once again, SceneShop offers its irreverent, snarky take on the holidays, a candy-cane free zone that's just for grown-ups. This evening promises no turkey, no ill-fitting gifts from your great aunt and little of the treacly sentiment found in TV holiday movies. Instead, expect some raucous live music, potent short theatre pieces and a generally relaxed good time in which we guarantee no wide-eyed waif will utter, "God bless us, everyone." This year's highlights include: Eclectic rockin' tunes from The LakeRats! Sketch Comedy from Andy and Joleen Mullins, who perform together in the popular show "Takin' a Break from Sex"! Choral music from the Fifth Avenue Hi-Notes! New theatrical works from SceneShop and our new, youthful side project, Lost Beat Generation, including an all-new update of last year's popular feature, "Holiday Musings with Jackie Pickard." And as always, the concession area will boast a selection of snacks, soft drinks, coffee and the very appropriate "adult beverages." It all happens within the festive, funky ambience of Arts Fifth Avenue, Fort Worth's irreplaceable arts education-and-performance gem. The address is 1628 Fifth Avenue (corner of Fifth and Allen) in the historic Fairmount District. Tickets are $10 and reservations are suggested, by calling 817-923-9500. This show is not recommended for persons under high-school age. ..
