Bluegrass? Folk? Old-Time? Celtic? Gospel? Scenic Roots is a bit of each. They will take you on a scenic journey as they weave the many musical influences together to create their own blend of acoustic music. They’ll take you back in time, share songs from a simpler day, when people used to gather on front porches to pick and sing together.
Scenic Roots is a sister duo from Concordia, KS who have been performing together for over ten years. Because they have always been playing together, their arrangements are tight and their performances consistent. Erin Rogers plays mountain dulcimer and piano; Amber Rogers plays fiddle and clawhammer banjo; and both girls sing. They are also occasionally joined by their dad, Doug on guitar, mandolin, and vocals. Their music is a blend of old-time mountain melodies, bluegrass drive, and down-home humor.
Erin's musical journey began when she started playing piano at the age of five. She soon discovered that pianos aren’t very portable and acquired a mountain dulcimer when she was seven. She taught herself to play, fell in love with the instrument, and soon developed a playing style all her own. Erin won the 2004 National Mountain Dulcimer Contest at the age of seventeen, becoming the youngest ever to win this title. In 2007, Erin was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. As she went through chemotherapy and battled her cancer, music became an important part of the healing process. She is now cancer free and desires to share the healing touch of music with others going through painful trials.
Amber’s musical journey began when she was at the young age of 4. She started her on the fiddle and soon began classical piano training. Amber has a fascination with learning new instruments and is constantly adding to her list. She now plays the piano, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, claw-hammer banjo, mandolin and sings. Her favorite place to be is in the background, adding licks and runs to help enhance the other instruments being played. She enjoys playing with any instruments, in any style of music.
Both girls also enjoy sharing their knowledge of music to others through teaching. Erin teaches workshops and private lessons on mountain dulcimer, piano, and basic music theory. Amber teaches private lessons on piano, fiddle, hammered dulcimer and banjo. They also teach joint workshops about playing with others in jam sessions or ensembles.
Ready for some toe tapping music? Ready to shed a tear as you listen to a sad, mournful song? Prepared to laugh at some whimsical lyrics? Scenic Roots will take you there. Prepare yourself for a musical journey unlike any other.

WOW!! Thanks for returning the comment to me. I had no idea you were at Winfield too. We must have barely missed you. Here is a picture of us playing on Stage 5 on Friday night. When my sons and I and other friends play together we are 'Family Business'. But here I am playing with my sons as their group 'Midwest Madness'. Thanks, Steve
Thank you so much 'Scenic Roots' for your Friendship Request!! I very much accept! I loved your songs, especially 'Young Emily' (beautiful song, very wonderful) and 'Green Pastures' (I liked your harmonies). I too play and sing music with my family, my sons to be exact. There is nothing better to me than to share this together. That is why your myspace page and your pictures and songs brought tears to my eyes. I hope that it is as good for you as it is for me. Right now we are camped out in the Pecan Grove at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield. We do this every year. We call ourselves 'Family Business'. It is in the friends space of this profile you found me on and there is some of our songs on it. My sons also have a group called 'Midwest Madness', that is in the friends space too. Again, thank you very much for your friendship and I hope I get a chance to see you somewhere. Steve
