Schadenfreude, consisting of Mark Findlay and Dan Hamill, is only a year old, remarkable, considering the success already achieved by the London based pair. Whether it be their hugely successful shows at London’s O2 Überclub Matter, their international gigs at party capitals like Ibiza, their successful promotions night ‘Overload’ (O2 Matter, La Scala, Ministry of Sound and Pasha) or their chart topping, forward thinking dance originals and remixes......Schadenfreude have made quite an impression over the last year and are rapidly making swift headway into the illustrious ranks of EDM.
Mark, initially, gaining valuable knowledge, experience and insight into the music industry working at EMI label 'Mute' and live recording company 'Liveherenow', came from an engineering and production background while Dan, who had moved to London - from Channel Island Guernsey - focused on DJ’ing and quickly gained an unprecedented reputation and a legion of wild fans that resulted in him acquiring slots and completely tearing up at infamous London clubs including: The Key, The Cross, Fabric, Egg and Ministry of Sound to name just a few.
With both heading in the same direction musically, the ambitious and driven duo soon joined forces to become 'Schadenfreude'. Able to combine elements of techno, house, minimal and trance with the production level of a major label, they have crafted a unique, identifiable sound all of their own, one that can only be described as **different!!**.
With tracks being picked up by international labels, like Deep Dish owned 'Yoshitoshi Recordings', and the boys remixing some of the world’s best, their tracks are consistently being found in the record bags of music's elite. Landmark achievements for Schadenfreude, like a publishing deal with prestigious '23rd Precinct Music Limited’ and being remixed by Deadmau5 remixer and Toolroom badboy Adam Shaw & German techno Wizzkid M.in (from Get Physical fame), seem to be becoming a regular occurrence.
Not content with receiving feedback and support from the likes of: Layo & Bushwacka, Guy Gerber, D'Julz (Pokerflat), Eddie Halliwell, Fergie, Funkagenda, Dave Spoon, Moonbootica, LP Støvring, M.O.D.E, Emerson, Anil Chawla, Scot Bradford and countless others for their chart topping ‘Rio Bravo Del Norte’ package on - Septembers 2009 i-DJ label of the month - ‘Spinout Records’, or their HwooOOge banger of a remix of House legend Richard Dinsdales, ‘As The Record Spins’, the duo understand that complacency, in an industry that never stops moving, is never an option. Hard work, drive and a passionate ear for music, are traits that no profile or amount of success can replace.
Schadenfreude continue to play some of the most upfront, underground dance music ever to be heard in the UK and on some of the worlds most notorious dance floors. As the boundaries of EDM expand, they are conspiring to create a unique, forward thinking and groundbreaking performance, complete with a live and visual show that has been taking shape over the last few months. Matter was the first club to get the Overload and Schadenfreude treatment with the help of visual genius, Daniel Herbert and his ‘Mabuse’ software. Their fusion of sound and technology attempts to give the crowd an all round sensory experience.... something they believe is missing from the majority of EDM events. Prepare for Schadenfreude........

Selection of Track Reviews:
"We’ve got another new talent, Schadenfreude, who have certainly put their stamp on this remix of ‘As The Record Spins’. This is a proper banger, make no mistake. The feisty kick and growling bass are balanced by video-game stabs. For the build up think the Guinness advert horses crossed with the launch of Apollo 13, and in much the same way it explodes back in but leaving room to grow to the introduction of the chopped sample, after which it drops back in more high energy than ever, bringing us to a throbbing, pulsing synth to signal the build up which is anything but minimal. This is a millitant, high octane track with more twists and turns than a day at Alton Towers. Phew!" Spinout Records Press release

Excellent--definitely keep me in the loop on the winter gig possibilities.
That's fantastic news about "Rio Bravo"! I played it at a gig a few weeks ago, and it was definitely well received. Can't wait to get my hands on the remixes. We'll have to get you guys over here to play at one of the next Helix parties. Maybe we can work out a trans-Atlantic exchange program between Schadenfreude and Means+Function, eh? :)
Thanks dude-- glad you liked the set! I wish I had recorded the one I did for the debut Helix party last Friday... it went over incredibly well! I may just have to work it into a new demo.
Definitely interested in getting out there again late this year. When you have a sec, we should talk about possible gigs in early-mid December if you guys are going to be around and if anything's available.
