Bio:

After a long hibernation, Schadenfreude are ready to burst back onto the scene with a new lease on life. A refreshed version of their individual sound, an armful of their strongest songs yet, and a new drummer promise catch the attention of fresh ears and blow the minds of old fans.

Before the hiatus, the band was gathering a an exciting list of accomplishments. From playing well received support shows including Canada’s Psyche and Sydney’s Lost Valentinos to wowing crowds in Sydney and Brisbane at the Under The Blue Moon festival; the launch of their debut single ‘Vertigo’ recorded at Melbourne’s infamous Hothouse Studios, the release of their first film clip for said single (with subsequent play on Rage), and a series of great headline gigs all around Melbourne.

Formed in Melbourne in 2005, Schadenfreude are a four piece who straddle the genres of post punk, indie and new wave - brought together by a common admiration for bands such as The Church, The Cure, and The Chameleons. Their line up consists of lead singer, songwriter and guitarist Kitty Miller, lead guitarist and vocalist Rob ‘Dorian’ Gray, bassist Monk and new recruit, drummer Scott Jackson.

Schadenfreude is a mixture of lush, hypnotic or razor-sharp guitars, underpinned by melodic bass and dynamic, propulsive drums - all topped off by emotive vocals that will just as likely purr, soar or snarl.

Kitty Miller’s songwriting consists of elegantly simple melodic structures combined with irresistible killer indie/new wave hooks. Add to that some cutting guitars for the frenzy factor, and – for those who like to think while they’re feeling -- Kitty writes well crafted lyrics which reward the more careful listener with layers of deeper meaning. From their ever popular Vertigo to slow moody numbers such as Autumn Fire, to the high energy Top Shoes, Schadenfreude perform with an energetic and driven stage sympatico, and convey their emotionally charged tracks with conviction. Schadenfreude live have a tangible magnetism which has already seen their loyal following grow locally and internationally.
